Crimes of the Masoretes III
The Deification of Israel
Continued from Part 2
A 'Different' Translation
"When the Most High (El Elyon) apportioned the nations, when He divided humankind, He fixed the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of the gods (bene elohim/sons of God); the LORD's (Yahweh's) own portion was His people, Jacob his allotted share" (Deuteronomy 32:8, NRSV).
For those of you brought up using 'classical' Protestant and Messianic versions of the Bible like the King James Version (KJV), New King James Version (NKJV), New American Standard Bible (NASB), New International Version (NIV), Complete Jewish Bible (CJB), Hebraic-Roots Version (HRV) and the Institute for Scripture Research Version (ISRV) - to name but a few translations - this rendition of Deuteronomy 32:8 may have caused you to raise your eyebrows, especially as the version I have quoted - the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) - is the darling of liberal scholars. What may surprise you learn, though, that in spite of it being the standard text of serious liberal scholars since it was first published in 1989, it is nevertheless serious work of scholarship and extraordinarily accurate, a reason we recommend it even if we do warn people to be careful of study versions of it (like the New Interpreter's Study Bible).
Two Divergent Sources
It is by no means, however, alone in its rendition of this passage. When serious conservative evangelical versions like the English Standard Version (ESV) agree with the NRSV, it is time to take note. Were these the only two translations to have rendered this passage in this way we might perhaps be justified in viewing them as quirks but when fourteen translation (from my own collection - there are undoubtedly more) broadly agree with the rendition, including the very important official Greek translation of the Tanakh (Old Testament) recognised by the early rabbis, the Septuagint (LXX), it is time to seriously take note. The following table is a comparison of about 30 versions divided into two sections - the first showing the oldest known Dead Sea Scrolls (DSS) ground text and the second that of the Jewish Masoretes:

Jacob 1,500 Years Too Early
So why the change from "[sons of] elohim (God, angels, gods)" to "[sons of] Israel"? What were the Masoretes thinking? To answer that we must first understand what Moses meant when he first penned this statement under the inspiration of the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit). Remember, Jacob (Israel) wasn't even around after Yahweh divided mankind into nations with different languages after the Babel incident - Jacob wasn't born for another 1,200 to 1,500 years so the Masoretic version is an hyistorical impossibility which as it stands just gives sceptics ammunition to claim Genesis isn't inspired and undermines emunah (faith) amongst the more thinking of believers.
What is 'God'?
One of the handicaps we face in coming to understand passages like this is the use by the translators of words like 'God' or 'gods'. In the minds of most English-speakers, when we think of 'God' we think of a Person - our Heavenly Father (Yahweh) - but when we think of 'gods' we tend to think of non-existent pagan entities or demons masquerading as these 'gods'. 'Elohim' is the plural form of the Hebrew word 'El' which we traditionally translate as 'God(s)' (Elohim), 'god' (el) or 'gods' (elohim) (though the English word 'God' is derived from an Indo-Germanic fertility deity called 'Ghodh') which some more accurately render as 'Mighty One(s)', 'Authority/Authorities', or better still, 'Power(s)'. When our English Bibles speak of 'LORD God' they are more accurately speaking of Yahweh-Elohim or 'Yahweh of Powers'. 'God' is not a name or even strictly-speaking a title but a description of Yahweh's power and authority.
Many Types of Elohim
In Scripture the word 'elohim' is used to describe Yahweh our Heavenly Father (the Supreme or Almighty Elohim), Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) His divine Son, the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit), malakim (angels), demons (fallen angels), pagan deities (idols and the demonic powers behind them) and human rulers (especially the judges in Israel). Because of our continued use of the word 'God' and 'gods' there has been confusion as to why this word is used of both Deity, malakim (angels) and man, and many have wrongly assumed that everyone (including man) can become deity. It must therefore be said that all powers or elohim are derived from the Most High, El Elyon, or Yahweh-Elohim, so that nobody apart from Yahweh is an 'independent power'. It was the illusion that malakim (angels) could become independent of Yahweh that led Lucifer (Heylel) to make his fateful choice to rebel and it is the same choice that all men and women make when they rebel against Yahweh's sovereignty.
What are 'Bene Elohim'?
The words Bene elohim, as we have seen from the table above, are therefore translated variously as "sons of Elohim (God)" (RSV, ESV, JB, NEB), "malakim (angels, messengers) of Elohim (God)" (LXX, RSTNE), "the elohim (gods)" (NRSV), "the divine beings" (NAB), etc. and all of these renditions would be correct. So what is going on here?
The Elohim as Proxy Rulers of the 70 Nations
After the rebellion at Babel, Yahweh ceased ruling the earth directly and passed all toqef (authority) and power to 70 malakim (angels), supernaturally created beings who are therefore 'elohim'. These were Yahweh's "sons" in the sense of becoming plenipotentiaries or proxy rulers. Each of the new nations was assigned a malak (angel) to represent Yahweh, lesser elohim. You will find these listed in the Table of Nations in Genesis 10. Not until Yahweh established the nation of Israel did He come to directly rule a nation again. There would be no intermediary elohim involved and today Messianic Israel is ruled directly by Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ), the eternal (uncreated) Son of the Most High.
The Fall of the 70 Elohim and the Princes of Persia and Greece
What happened to the original 70 elohim assigned to rule the 70 new nations? Over the course of time they came to accept worship from those they ruled and by this means fell. Two of these, the "prince of Persia" and the "prince of Greece" are mentioned in an account in the Book of Daniel. They opposed the faithful malak (angel) and true elohim of Yahweh-Elohim, Michael, whom they fought:
The Opposers of Michael
"I (Daniel) lifted my eyes and looked, and behold, a certain man clothed in linen, whose waist was girded with gold of Uphaz! ... Then he said to me, 'Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your Elohim (God), your words were heard; and I have come because of your words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia (the fallen ruling elohim of that nation) withstood me twenty-one days; and behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left alone there with the kings of Persia ... Then he said, 'Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come. But I will tell you what is noted in the Scripture of Emet (Truth). (No one upholds me against these, except Michael your prince" (Dan 10:5,12-13,20-21 NKJV)
Now no natural, earthly 'prince' would have been able to withstand so powerful a being as the archangel, Prince Michael, for the 'princes' of Persia and Greece are here the original 'gods' (elohim) appointed by Yahweh who are now - as fallen beings - opposing Michael, who opposed and prevented Michael for 21 days. These dark supernatural beings or elohim are better known, perhaps to some of you, as territorial spirits. They are demonic spirits that rules particular nations.
The Fallen Elohim of the Nations
The original 70 bene elohim or 'sons of God' were assigned, as we have seen, to 70 nations, and eventually succumbed to pride and lust for power, like Heylel (Satan) himself, and presented themselves as the 'gods' of these nations. They are still the "sons of Elohim (God)" but are fallen. They still have authority but they are using it for evil instead of in the service of their Creator, Yahweh. Some of these bene elohim became Dagon (Philistia), Chemosh (Moab), Molech (Ammon), Marduk (Babylon), Hadad or Ba'al (Canaan) and so on.
The Territorial Spirits of the Israeli Republic
There are very many more than 70 nations today but each has a territorial spirit over it, including the modern Israeli Republic whose elohim is not Yahweh but a whole cluster of ancient Edomite fertility deities that may include one or more of Qaus (Qaush, Kaush, Kaus, Kos or Qaws), the original pagan El (not Yahweh), Ba'al or Astarte (Inanna, Ishtar, etc.).
The Elohim of Messianic Israel
Who, then, is Yahweh the Elohim (God) over? The scattered nation of Messianic Israel, those who trust in Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) and obey His Torah, and who will, at the conclusion of the Second or Last Exodus, return to the Promised Land once those living there who do not worship Yahweh through His Son Yah'shua (Jesus) have been removed.
The Masoretic Elevation of Israel
Again, we have to ask the question: why did the Masoretes replaced the bene elohim with the bene Yisra'el? You can draw your own conclusions but it must surely be obvious that they wished Israel - or at least those counterfeiters who dentified with, and claimed to be, Israel - to become like the bene elohim - gods.
Making Israel Messiah Too
This attitude of virtual deity is reflected a great deal in the rabbiinical literature. It is for this reason that the Masoretes selected Tanakh (Old Testament) manuscripts (MSS), or otherwise mutilated what was there through false pointing or modification of extant words, that would convey the impression that they were the Messiah, as saviours of the world whom they believed they were destined to rule, displacing the true Messiah, Yah'shua (Jesus), to whom the prophecies - and especially the Suffering Servant prophecy in Isaiah 53 - pointed. (You can read more about this in Section #g of Talmudic Judaism: The Dark Truth. That is why the Tamudists, who were, and still are, racial supremacists (like the nazis who once persecuted them), once made such statements as:
"Since all Gentiles are only animals, all Gentile children are bastards" (Yebamoth, 98a).
This is why the Illumati global élites are swarming with their modern decendants from the Synagogue of Satan (rev.2:9; 3:9) working for a world dictatorship.
The Liberal Interpretation of Deuteronomy 32:8
Now liberals - those who don't believe in divine inspiration and prophecy - have a different take on Deueronomy 32:8 (see ) and view its origin in purely secular evolutionary terms.
The Divine Council Passes Judgment on the Bene Elohim
However, this is real history. The divine overseers (bene elohim) appointed by Yahweh over the first 70 nations set themselves up as gods and failed to uphold Yahweh's standards of justice. Accordingly Yahweh convened the Divine Council - or Council of Yah's Elohim, and passed judgment over them. He decreed that the bene elohim would one day die like men and He - Yahweh - would inherit all the nations once again.
Exposing the Supremacist Agenda
The Masoretic Text therefore serves, in some places (like Deuteronomy 32:8), a demonic murderous racist, supremacist agenda that we need to be aware of and correct, just as we must be aware of, and correct, Roman Catholic textual additions (like the Comma Johanneum) that appear in the New Testament Textus Receptus
When you dedicate your homes and the land they sit on, expell the territorial 'god' from it and invite Yahwweh-Elohim, through Yah'shua the Messiah His Plenipotentiary, to assume Territorial Rulership and to fill it with the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit). The physical body and temple of every believer, and every home, must belong to Yahweh, both by divine prerogative and for protection and safety in these dark days as territorial spirits get stronger and stronger thanks to the increased sinning of the nations. Israel cannot save you because Israel is made of fallible human beings, but the Eternal Son of Elohim (God), Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus), can and will. Say 'No' to the Masoretes' corrupted scriptures and 'yes' to Yahweh's Davar (Word). Amen.
fn "i.e. The angels, meaning the guardian angels of the nations, cf.. Dan.10:13. But Yahweh Himself takes care of Israel"
fn "The poem draws on an ancient tradion in which the origin of all nations is ascribed to to the action of the Most High God in distributing guardianship of the nations among various lesser gods. Later versions of this tradition demoted the lesser gods to guardian angels, each with a nation to tcare for (cf. The rôle of the angel of the angel Michael in Dan 10:13; 12:1). Concern to make clear a more stringent monotheism has identified the title Most High with Israel's God, and in consequence the mumber of the gods (v.8) was ammended to read 'the Israelites'. The present NRSV rendering is certainly the earlier text (cf. Ps.94:4-5)" (The New Interpreter's Study Bible, Abingdon press, Nashville, Tennessee: 2003).
