Dreams. We all have them, which makes them rather different from visions. However, not all dreams may be said to be "inspired". Most of the dreams we experience are merely recycled thoughts, pictures and feelings from the past, often pasted together in bizzare ways. And yet, however apparently meaningless, all dreams have a smattering of inspiration - a guiding force that is greater than, and external to, ourselves.
According to the Gospel of John every soul born into this world is accompanied by a portion of the Light of Christ. According to New Covenant Christian theology, this Light is rather like a pinch of yeast in the dough of the soul - a guiding beacon, usually invisible, but there nonetheless. This Light is the constant divine influence on us which interacts with our sleeping mind often creating interesting night dramas.
These night dreams are not the same as fully blown prophetic dreams. What makes the stuff of dreams so complicated is the fact that there is an almost infinite range of inspiration, from virtually nil to 100%-inspired dreams directly sent from God. As if this is not complicated enough, there is the added influence of a different kind of inspiration from dark forces - from the world of demons. The more sinful lives we lead, the great the possibility of demonic influences in dreams. And those who are possessed by demons have their dream life almost completely steered by them.
For this reason we counsel great caution when it comes to understanding dreams. It can take a whole life to properly understand them, and even then most people never come to work out the meaning of a tiny fraction of their dreams. And most of those aren't even interested. Great damage can be done by those who misunderstand dreams both to themselves and to others. So a gradual learning is one way to understand.
Another is to have God interpret them from you by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is by far the most satisfactory way of learning but such interpretation is only usually given to certain kinds of dreams, namely those which God has Himself given to a prophet or other messenger. There is little doubt what these dreams mean.
The purpose of this Page is not to study run-of-the-mill dreams but to look at those which have an unmistakable origin in God and which pertain to this New Covenant work in particular. Some of them are prophetic and appear on our Prophecy Page. Whilst the New Covenant Church of God has much experience with dreams there is no doubt that Yahweh has used visions in preference.
