Shemini Atseret 2017
Into the Valley of Vision, Chaverim

    Continued from Part 7

    Introduction

    Chag sameach Shemini Atseret and Shabbat shalom kol beit Israel and mishpachah!

    Ending the Festivals for a Year

    Welcome to the last (and by the reackoning of some, eighth) of the annual moedim (appointments) both for the autumn (fall) and indeed for the whole year. This is a Qadosh (Holy, Set-Apart) Convocation that continues the simcha (joy) of the Marriage Supper at Sukkot (Tabernacles), which is why many view it as simply a continuation of Sukkot.

    End of the Great Spiritual Opera

    Shemini Atseret, or the 'Last Great Day', ends what Errol Müller calls "the great spiritual opera revealing the Heavenly master plan from chaos to eternity" [1] with Shemini Atseret representing "the hope of humanity fulfilled" [2]. For the last Shemini Atseret, following the Second Coming, Judgment and Marriage Supper, marks the first day of the Millennium. It is at this time that the prophecy is brought to realisation:

      "[Yah'shua/Jesus] will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away" (Rev.21:4, NIV).

    A Moed Unlike the Others

    So in many respects Shemini Atseret is not a part of the normal cycle of annual festivals inasmuch as we cannot actually do anything. It points to a day further down the road, when a new type of cycle begins, which ends the current order and usshers in a new one where resurrected people will be living down on earth together King Messiah in the New Jersualem. As far as we are concerned, this is still afar off, even if there are many impatient believers reading the signs wrong who think it is on our very doorstep.

    Views About Shemini Atseret

    Most messianics simply spend an extra day of festivities at Shemini Atseret even though this is actually a sabbath assembly. And the Jews have unilaterally added an extra day, making for them a two day festival. Since it is a sabbath, it is also a time for the nevi'im (prophets) to speak a davar (word) when needed.

    Into the Valley and on to the Mountains

    Brethren and sisters, we have come to an ending and to a new beginning. Another phase of our journey has ended. We have walked between the two Houses of Evangelical Christianity and Messianic Israelism, rather like a car passing through a car wash with rollers on either side, and we have come out the other side. We are facing entirely new terrain. Such markers, reference points or guide posts as we have enjoyed up to now, that have enabled us to chart our course, are now behind us. Before us lies a gentle descent into a large valley and far beyond the valley are the mountains, our final destination.

    The 2007 Vision

    In case you have forgotten, I am alluding to a vision given in 2007, ten years ago:

      "I saw a road heading through a valley towards some distant mountains over which it passed to some unseen final destination. It was a very narrow road, more like a path or country lane. Ahead of me was a small hamlet consisting of only two houses beyond which was a gentle descent into a valley and beyond that the mountains. There was one house on either side of the road and opposite one another so that the road passed directly between them. Where the road was, there was much light (as along its entire length), as there was also in the valley beyond. There was an even brighter light coming from behind the mountains into which the road disappeared. Behind the two houses, and on either side of this little path, was first twilight and then complete darkness. The backs of the two houses jutted out into this darkness. As I looked closer I could see that the backs of both houses were crumbling into ruins so that in reality only about half of each house was habitable. As the vision ended I heard Yahweh speak: "Walk this road" [3].

    Our 30th Anniversary

    It has been a long journey. Next month is our 30th anniversary since we first organised in Oxford, England in November of 1987 as the 'Restoration Christian Fellowship' but our original calling goes back to 1984, so this is our 33rd anniversary since the original calling I was given.

    The End of One Journey

    Our journey between the two buildings has mostly been a theological one and it has been very, very hard work, as we have had to stop and take our bearings between the two buildings which represent jumbled-up theologies and practices. But now we face completely new terrain - a very large valley through which this narrow, lit road passes. It is all completely unknown to us.

    The New Adventure

    What exactly, you may ask, is this valley? Evangelical Christianity and Messianic Judaism/Israelitism are half decayed and falling apart. They represent the old order, the old understandings, the old ways, riddled with manmade traditions and errors. Taking with us all we were commanded to obtain, we now begin an entirely new adventure.

    The Mountain of Yahwe4h

    Understanding what the mountains are is not difficult to understand, because mountains represent the abode of Yahweh and of the Assembly of the Firstborn. We need to talk a lot about these in times to come. Just to remind you, Satan sought the Throne of Yahweh on the Qadosh (Holy, Set-Apart) Mountain for himself, even as it is written:

      "You (Satan) said in your heart,
      'I will ascend to heaven;
      I will raise my throne
      above the stars of Elohim (God);
      I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
      on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
      I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High"
      (Isa.14:13-14, NIV).

    The Mount of Assembly

    There is a mountain - "the mount of assembly" - and that is where we are headed and have always been headed, but not before now has it become visible, albeit it in the distance.

    The 1996 Vision of the White-Capped Black Mountain

    21 years ago, in 1996, Yahweh showed me the following vision:

      "I saw a flat-topped black mountain and out of the sky came a glistening, white snow-covered cap that settled on top of it. And I heard the voice of Yahweh say to me: 'Thou art as the monk who seeketh the Qadosh (Holy, Set-Apart) Mountain.' Man must meet Yahweh at the summit through a long walk in the dark corridors of time. The glory, righteousness and purity (symbolised by the white peak) are supplied by Yahweh, for the man cannot obtain it of his own effort. Grace is free, but man must work hard consistently against the pull of the carnal nature (symbolised by climbing the dark mountain) in order to obtain it" (Olive Branch, 410:2-6).

    The New and Old Jerusalems and Their Valleys of Vision

    The New Jerusalem, like the old Jerusalem, is on top of a mountain, and nearby is a valley. The valley in my vision may be called the Valley of Vision because such a valley existed outside the old Jerusalem and a corresponding valley will be present outside the New Jerusalem when it descends out of heaven. I think you will understand the symbolism as I relate to you a prophecy made by Isaiah dating back to the Babylonian siege of Jerusalem (588-586 BC):

      "An oracle concerning the Valley of Vision:

      "What troubles you now,
      that you have all gone up on the roofs,
      O town full of commotion,
      O city of tumult and revelry?
      Your slain were not killed by the sword,
      nor did they die in battle.
      All your leaders have fled together;
      they have been captured without using the bow.
      All you who were caught were taken prisoner together,
      having fled while the enemy was still far away.
      Therefore I said, 'Turn away from me;
      let me weep bitterly.
      Do not try to console me
      over the destruction of my people.'

      "The Master Yahweh Tzevaoth (of Armies), has a day
      of tumult and trampling and terror
      in the Valley of Vision,
      a day of battering down walls
      and of crying out to the mountains"
      (Isa 22:1-5, NIV).

    The Safe Way Through the Valley of Vision

    Chaverim, such a time is now upon us and we are about to pass through the Valley of Vision. The only safe place is the lit Derech or Way, which, of course, is Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) Himself. This is the time to draw close Him, know Him, adhere to Him, follow Him closely and listen attentively to His instructions. I don't know how long this valley journey will be as I was given no indication of it, though if it is at least ten years I would not be a bit surprised if only because the last stage of our journey has taken that long. But I really have no idea at this stage.

    Revealing the Valley of Vision

    Why, you may ask, is it called the "Valley of Vision"? Because this is the valley in which Yahweh reveals Himself in visions. Physically, it was probably the Kidron Valley east of Jerusalem, being called the "choicest of valleys" in verse 7, a valley "full of chariots and horsemen", fast moving instruments of war. Literally we shall find ourselves in a war situation and in parallel, spiritually too. But this is a choice valley, a valley where Yahweh of Armies - Yahweh-Tsevaoth - reveals Himself in visions to those who are following Him.

    Bad Times for the West

    Just as 2,500 years ago, this was a bad time for the city of Jerusalem, so this will be a bad time for apostate Christianity and Messianism, as well as literally in once Christian nations such as the West. Jerusalem fell, as will the West. But I don't particularly want to go into all of that today. I merely want to admonish everyone that they must stick to the strait and narrow Derech (Way). This is no picnic we are about to go through but Yahweh has been preparing you for it these last few years.

    A Good Path

    In spite of what will be happening in the Valley of Vision generally, the narrow path will be good. It will not only be safe but it will be a place of much simcha (joy) and of productivity. If the past years have seemed idle and not very productive in terms of souls, all of that is about to change. You need not take my word for it. Just wait and see.

    A New Beginning

    This is, as I said, a new beginning for us, not a 'millennium' but definitely something bearing some resemblance to it, at least on the narrow path itself, though there will be war and tribulation on either side of the path. It is most definitely the time for the Remnant to get ready to get on their feet and to sally forth.

    Eyes on Yah'shua and His Promises

    As I said yesterday, we need to get our eyes on Yah'shua (Jesus) and off the calamity around us. 'Jerusalem' has had it - there is no rescuing it now. Our business is elsewhere, on that narrow path in the Valley of Vision:

      "But those who wait on Yahweh will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint" (Is.40:31, NLT).

    Conclusion

    May Yahweh our Elohim (God) bless us all as we prepare to leave the city of destruction and descend into that valley, in Yah'shua's (Jesus') Name. Amen.
