. Of course He does. It destroys the sacred tie that binds families to Him. "So guard yourself in your spirit and do not break faith", the verse continued.
Stan had not broken faith with his ancestors. He felt a deep love and responsibility for them, and he knew that one day he would dwell with the saved amongst them in heaven. He looked forward to that reunion as only a small child can long for his birthday.
"'Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and that day that is coming will set them on fire,' says Yahweh Almighty. 'Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere My Name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like the calves released from the stall. Then you will trample down the wicked; they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day when I do these things,' says Yahweh Almighty. Remember the law of My servant Moses, the degrees and laws I gave him at Horeb for all Israel"8.
My soul was filled with astonishment as more of the great puzzle of life began to fit together. All these verses were connected. The last verses in the Old Testament were telling us a vital truth about not only the importance of our families and patriarchy, but about the place of the law even to the day of judgment. The law is to be remembered and obeyed even until the end of time, just as Christ had foretold9, but now from the heart outwards in Christ10.
Hanna came in to tell me that Tom was awake and I had to leave. I kissed my husband and went off to my precious little bundle. He was growing fast and was already crawling. There always seemed to be a smile on his face, the kind of smile that engages your whole heart and makes you want to thank the Lord for His loving kindness.
