THE FIVE COMMISSIONS
of the New Covenant Church of God
The New Covenant Church of God of Jesus Christ is a Restoration Church raised up by God in these latter days to perform a special mission in the world. It is an independent Church, having no organisational connection with Catholicism, Protestantism, Mormonism or any other Christian or non-Christian grouping or denomination. This pamphlet, which is based on a revelation received in 1990 (NC&C 263), sets out the purposes of the Church.
1. To Convert All to Christ
The first and foremost calling of the New Covenant Church of God is to preach the Good News or Gospel of Jesus Christ in all the world, making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20).
New Covenant Christians (members of the New Covenant Church of God) believe that the Lord is the process of restoring the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through them and it is our desire, therefore, that all souls should have the opportunity of embracing this New Covenant.
We do not, however, look upon all other Christian Churches as "apostate" or "heretical", for we believe that God is working through many different groups of Christians on different levels of light. We consider it our duty to direct people who do not desire to unite with us to other Churches where their needs may be met and their new-found faith may be nurchured according to their willingness to obey the commandments of Christ.
2. To Gather in the Elect
Unlike many Christian Churches we do not believe it sufficient simply to "accept Christ" in order to achieve full salvation. New Covenant Christians point to the numerous scriptures where Jesus taught that we are to love Him, and that loving Him means obedience to all His commandments. Not all Christians are willing to do this, some rejecting commandments they either do not like or do not fully understand.
The New Covenant Church of God is an apostolic Church and enjoys the same supernatural gifts of revelation as the Church founded by Christ. Through the grace of God we have received numerous revelatory keys in order to help us better know God and ourselves, and thus to enable us to repent and achieve sanctification and perfection.
The more valiant members of the New Covenant Church of God are called into deeper covenants with Christ and are challenged to be obedient in all things. This demands great dedication, consecration and sacrifice.
The scriptures call this special body of Christians the Church of the Firstborn which is made up of 144,000 souls who are willing to forsake all worldly things in order to follow the Master (Heb.12:23; Rev.7:1-8; 14:1-5; for a fuller treatment of this subject, see our pamphlet, What is the Chevra B'Qor?). Most of these "firstborn souls" have already lived and are now in Heaven. It is the belief of this Church that there are some 3,000 of these men and women living who must be gathered in before the end time. Part of the mission of the New Covenant Church of God is to seek out these elect disciples and to induct them into the deeper mysteries of the faith.
3. To Sow in all Churches
As mentioned in the First Commission, our purpose is not simply to convert people to our Church, but to Christ. In addition, New Covenant Christians have been called to share what God has revealed to them to all churches and individuals who will receive it whether in part or as a whole. We do not expect the broad mass of Christians to accept everything we believe in but we do believe that they will receive much and be greatly blessed by it. Moreover, we believe that other Christians have much to teach us. We therefore consider spiritual cross-fertilisation to be one of the ways in which God acts in the world.
We acknowledge our debt to many people in many churches -- past and present -- and hope that we, in our way, have been -- and will continue to be -- a blessing to others.
The New Covenant Church of God also cooperates in various social projects run by other churches. We at present (1991) cooperate with the Church of Christ (Campbellite) in India in the operation of orphanages, leprosy centres and clinics, and soon hope to cooperate with another Church in India in social work there. In Norway our members have been involved in various projects run by the Lutheran, Pentecostal, and other churches in reaching out to alcoholics and drug-addicts. We have also witnessed of Christ on television for an Evangelical Church in Oslo (available on video) and have supported the unregistered Free Baptists in the Soviet Union.
4. Lifting a Warning Voice
The New Covenant Church of God is a prophetic Church and acknowledges the ministry of prophets and prophetesses. We consider it a sacred duty to warn against all unrighteousness by word and by deed -- against all forms of violence, immorality, and false religion. We have also been commanded to deliver prophecies to the nations which are published and as widely distributed as possible. The New Covenant Church of God predicted the unification of Germany and warned of the rise in violence that this would bring in the nation. Prophecies on Germany, Poland, the Baltic States, Russia, the Ukraine, Yugoslavia, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Israel, Jordan, the USA, Canada, Brazil, and many other nations are available upon request.
We believe in the literalness of the apocalyptic warnings in scripture and believe that the Antichrist is already on the earth waiting to reveal himself as the "New Age Christ" or Maitreya. New Covenant Christians believe that this is the greatest danger facing true Christianity. We believe that the world as a whole will be subjected to a world dictatorship under the leadership of this false christ and that his chief instrument will be a network of New Age organisations whose spiritual roots are Hindu -- organisations who not infrequently masquerade as being "Christian" by using the language of Christianity. We believe that this movement is the precursor to a single synthetic, worldwide worldwide religion set up by the Antichrist that will persecute Christians prior to the physical return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
5. To Gather the Ten Tribes
One of the more specialised missions of the New Covenant Church of God is to help gather in the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel whom we believe are scattered, for the most part, in northern Europe, north America, Australasia and Southern Africa. We believe that these people are to be gathered up by prophets in the last day and be returned to the land of Zion at Christ's Second Coming.
In the post-war era we have witnessed the beginning of the gathering of the Tribe of Judah from its diaspora back to its homeland in
accordance with Biblical prophecies, and the establishment of the State of Israel. This has been accomplished through their own prophets and leaders.
The New Covenant Church of God believes that it will have a special responsibility toward the Ten Tribes in the last days, to awaken them to an awareness of their identity through the preaching of the Gospel, and to assist in their physical gathering to Zion.
Conclusion
These are, broadly speaking, the Five Commissions of the New Covenant, or New Covenant Church of God, which was fully organised on 6 April 1988 in Oxord, England, by the command of God.
The New Covenant Church of God is now headquartered in Scandinavia and has members in several European countries. We are a young and vital Church and currently enjoying an explosion of revelation and divine manifestations (angels, personal visits of Christ, etc.) and are seeking for those who are willing to follow the Lord Jesus Christ in all things.
