FAQ 237
On Bishops
NCW 32, April 1996 (Part I)
Q. I would like to ask for a clarification of the Bishop's rôle in the Church since no real distinction is made between them and Pastors in the New Testament Church.
A Bishop is a Pastor with the responsibility of shepherding not only his own Metropolitan (Central/Mother) Colony but being a shepherd over all the other daughter colonies that are a part of his Central Colony. He is, in a way, an "arch-Pastor". We recommend you study the letters of Ignatius which are now a part of the Church's secondary canon as they say much about this Priesthood office (e.g. 1 Ign.6; 2 Ign.3-4,7; 3 Ign.2; 5 Ign.1; 7 Ign.6).
