FAQ 225
The Future of the Temple
NCW 30, February 1996
Q. Is it true that the various temple degrees that are described in your publications (Taphim, Pethach, Tabal, Qum, Dabar, etc.) are to disappear in the new Church? What will be relationship between temple and the congregations in the Church? Will Priesthood Weighing return as obtained in the early days?
The final form of the temple has not yet been revealed but as far as we know the degrees you mention, and those others formerly in use, will effectively disappear, as they belonged to the former dispensation of the Church. There will be little or no direct contact between the various colonies (congregations) of the Church and the temple. Most of the functions handled by the temple (which, with one exception 1995 has not been in use for a year) will now be handled by the pastorates of the colonies themselves.
Priesthood stewardship and accountability have always been, and always will be, a part of the New Covenant Church because the Priesthood is a sacred call. It must be clearly understood that the new Church will be no less stricter than the old one. What form this accountability will take will not be announced until April.
