Yahweh's Word
It Never Returns Void
by Avah Batyah

Prayer to me is still a mystery, in that, many times when I am praying I feel redundant and wonder if Yahweh is bored with hearing me say and ask the same thing, over and over....and...do I need to, am I supposed to ask over and over?
I have always viewed prayer as conversation with Yahweh, just sitting with Him and talking, and trying to listen more than I talk. I have never wanted it to become some kind of formula or act of religion. I wanted, and want, connection. But we don't always feel that connection do we? So we press through, in faith and sometimes doubt but He is faithful, always, even when we don't yet know it.
So as I am talking to Him about all this , I am reminded of all the scriptures - all the wonderful promises in the Bible. And you know how your mind works - you can think a thousand thoughts a minute sometimes - so here I am, my mind flooded with hope and doubt all at the same time. Part of me is saying, 'Yes! He is my refuge, my safe fortress' and another part of me (thanks in part to the enemy) 'Yeah sure, what about all the 'believers' who are persecuted and killed for their faith, where is your god then?' Aye, aye, aye, my mind and heart were in such conflict but I heard in my spirit "MY Davar (Word) does not return void". So I grabbed my Bible and went to Isaiah 55:10-11.
“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there,
But water the earth,
And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower
And bread to the eater,
So shall My Davar (Word) be that goes forth from My mouth;
It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please,
And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it”
(Isaiah 55:10–11, NKJV).
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my Davar (Word) that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it”
(Isaiah 55:10-11, NIV).
I knew this scripture but it hit me in a different way as I read it this time. Wait, wow, ok...so . Rain and snow come from above and do not return back above (you can't take it back) without accomplishing their purpose which produces great benefit in the growth of crops, the refreshment of souls, and the sustaining of life.
Yahweh compares His Davar (Word) to the rain and snow because, like the precipitation, Yahweh's Davar (Word) always fulfills His good purposes. He will never go back on His Davar (Word), so we can know and trust that it will accomplish what He desires.
So is my Davar (Word) that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. (NIV)
My spirit was jumping up and down! Yes! Yes! Yes! How incredible is this? His Davar (Word) is alive and life-giving and He will not take it back, but it will work and accomplish in us His good will. It goes deep into the soil of our hearts and creates and mends and grows inside of us, changing us into His likeness. Amen?
When Yahweh said that His Davar (Word) will not return void, we can know that:
- 1. He has an intention for His Davar (Word). Every Davar (Word) He gave humanity is purposeful and was given for a reason. Like the rain and snow, Yahweh's Davar (Word) brings forth life (John 6:63) and produces good fruit in our lives. Through His Davar (Word), we know that Yahweh loves us and that Yah'shua (Jesus) died to free us from sin and death; we also learn how to live in light of those truths;
- 2. We are encouraged to abide in His Davar (Word), allowing it to absorb into our lives, soaking it up as the ground soaks up the rain and snow. Yahweh's Davar (Word) will always accomplish what He desires, whether it is teaching, correcting, training, leading us to Him, revealing our sin, or some other good and profitable end;
- 3. We understand that Yahweh is sovereign. The promise is that Yahweh's Davar (Word) will accomplish what He wants it to, not necessarily what we want it to. We may share the Davar (Word) with the purpose of changing someone’s mind — and the person’s mind doesn’t change. Was Elohim’s (God’s) Davar (Word) void? No, but our personal goals may have been different from Yahweh's. Like the wind that “blows wherever it pleases,” the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit) moves in mysterious ways (John 3:8). And Yahweh may use His Davar (Word) in surprising ways, at surprising times, and in surprising people. We can’t predict exactly how Yahweh will use His Davar (Word) any more than meteorologists can predict with certitude the rainfall and snowfall.
Yahweh's Davar (Word) will not return void. It is too powerful. When Yahweh said, “Let there be light,” the immediate result was that “there was light” (Genesis 1:3). When Yah'shua (Jesus) said, “Peace! Be still!” the wind ceased and the sea calmed (Mark 4:39). Yahweh's Davar (Word) will always prosper; Yahweh will succeed, and those who receive His Davar (Word) will be overcomers as well (1 John 5:4).
Amen and amen!
