Being or Person?
Posted by Lev/Christopher on October 22, 2008 at 1:35am in Patriarchinity
I have never been entirely sure why you use make a distinction between 'Being* and 'Person' when it comes to the Godhead and man, respectively. I understand the motive in your doing so, viz. you do not want the Godhead to be viewed in anthropomorphic terms (and I agree, only I would describe humans as theomorphic). I bring this up in part because I have always understood that the two words are interchangeable and eqivalent to the Hebrew nefesh (soul = spirit/ruach + body). I expect you already know that the ISRV (The Scriptures) uses the word 'beings' for souls or humans and avoids the use of the word 'person' altogether?
A 'person' has 'personality' or 'character' a trait common to both the Elohim and mankind so I have never had a problem referring to the members of the Godhead as being Divine 'Persons' with whom we can have a personal relationship. The word 'being' is much more neutral in that respect and is used of animals as well as humans. So when I view the Elohim as 'Persons' I am not implying they are mortal humans like us but rather possess personality and character as we do as their images.
That's another reason I dislike the Whole Wheat wetsuit doctrine because personality is a function of both our spirits (the personality being uniquely our own) as well as the flesh (from which we obtain parental, and thus generational, personality traits). The difference between the two 'personalities' is that one is spiritual and the other psychic - the former remains constant, the latter changes as the carnal nature is crucified by substitution with the Messiah-Nature.
My only concern is that the use of the word 'Beings' instead of 'Personals' renders the Elohim more impersonal and distant like the WW wetsuit. What do you think?
