Karen Mayer Cunningham was interviewed by Daystar Houston Celebration's Tom Lanza about her son James' miraculous cure from autism.

My son, James, was born completely healthy and had a normal infancy. Suddenly, at 18 months old, he was afflicted with autism. He was so oppressed by the enemy he could speak only 10-15 words, and even those were unintelligible. He would get mad and hit his head into (and through) the walls of our home. Managing his needs took every resource we had.

My husband and I saw therapists, followed the orders of specialists and doctors, utilized state services like Any Baby Can and MHMR for Texas, consulted Social Security regarding disabilities, sought out independent school districts and private hospitals . . . anything and everything available to us. At almost every turn we found rejection, dismissal, and despair.

When we had reached a true breaking point, we met a team of people who gave us hope. In the spring of 2000 when James was 5 years old, he experienced a deliverance from his oppressive, tormenting affliction and we witnessed a miracle. A true miracle!

It is now 2009. James is in the 8th grade. Because of his years in the prison of autism, he has had to do some catching up but is making astonishing strides. He is academically on a 5th grade level, taking back lost ground daily. New people in our life who meet the James of today find his story hard to believe. But it is true!

God’s miracle-working power is not thwarted by some new illness with a new name. The Lord is not surprised or overwhelmed, as we are, by the huge challenges thrown in our paths; He has an answer! Because I never want to lose the impact of how much we went through and where we are now, I’ll be sharing my experiences in my new book, Defying Autism, published by Strang Communications, which will be available in bookstores in April.
