Many Messianic congregations and organisations insist that Hebrew instruction be mandatory for Yahweh's people as it is written in the Nevi'im or prophets:
"For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of Yahweh, to serve him with one consent" (Zephaniah 3:9, KJV).
Many translations render "pure language" as "pure lips" (e.g. NIV) and may possibly be emphasising purity of heart. Messianic Jews maintain that this Lashon Qodesh or 'Pure (Set-Apart) Language' will be fully restored during the Millennium and insist it is Hebrew. This is possible though nobody knows which Hebrew, the original 'Hebrew' being spoken by the ancestor of the Hebrews, Eber. This language, like every language, has, however, considerably evolved over the millennia - modern Hebrew is quite different from ancient Hebrew.
The opinion of MLT is that there is considerable advantage to be gained by those who study Hebrew and this is something we encourage those who want to, if for no other reason than to enhance Scripture study. However, it is impossible to say what kind of Hebrew will be spoken in the Millennium when Yah'shua (Jesus) returns. The current lingua franca of the world is English and therefore more useful for evangelising and communication for the present. There is also advantage in studying Greek for New Testament studies.
