Fireproof ~ Never leave your partner behind

Posted by Deborah Peterson on January 30, 2009 at 11:35am
    in Marriage & Relationships

In this last week I finally got the DVD for a movie called "Fireproof", and I so highly recommend it to everyone.

This is an inspiring movie with a (Biblical) Gospel heart...

It is the story about a fireman, Capt. Caleb Holt, who's own marriage seems to be in flames. With the urging of his father, he agrees to take "The Love Dare", a 40 day journey to try and save his marriage. However, as his gestures are repeatedly rejected by his wife, he begins to realise that he cannot give what he does not have... unconditional love.
And with this, a story begins to unfold of the power of Divine Love ~ not only to change a man, but a marriage.

This is an awesome movie, and whether your marriage is healthy, or its hanging by a thread (or even if you are a single wanting to know more about a marriage that honours Elohim) this will be a blessing to you.

"Fireproof doesn't mean that a fire will never come, but that when it come that you will be able to withstand it." ~ Lt. Michael Simmons, Fireproof

    "Never leave your partner behind"

Fireproof ~ Never leave your part behind

    Fireproof Your Marriage

    Hi,

I´v seen it. It touched me very deeply. I recommend it also!

We saw this as well, a great movie with a wonderful message! I think the 40 Day Love Dare could apply not only to marriage but to how we live our lives as believers. :)

You can actually get the book of the full 40-day Love Dare :D When I was reading through the Fireproof website (it includes some stories of how Yah has touched people using this story), I read about one girl who shared that though she wasn't married, while watching the movie she saw herself and her relationship with Yahweh, and was going to do the Love Dare to Him :D I agree that the Love Dare is a challenge we can take with anyone, especially someone we have trouble loving!

coincidentally, i just saw this last night.
Maybe from what i've been going through, I'm cynical, but the subtext of many of the daily dares is that it'll cost money.

    The X amount of cards,
    the X amount of flowers,
    the X amount of dinners,
    the updated wheelchair and bed.

The subtext of the film is that money is ultimately the answer to everything-- that is what ultimately won the wife over.

The couple in the film does not have the added stresses of children,
The couple in the film is very well off financially (double income: fire chief, and hospital administrator-- we're talking $$$).
One of the top causes of marital stress is a lack of finances.

What if in the movie it was a single income family (that earned about half of what a fire chief makes) and had children? Think the husband would be able to play these little games?

Your points are well taken. I too saw the movie recently and the very issues you raise also crossed my mind while I was watching. However, I think the main point of the movie is that it's not the resourses you have at hand that can win the day (of course, it ultimately depends on the agency and choices of the participants) but the attitude of loving, sacrificial humility that you have that will (if it does) win the day. There's no guarantee of a successful conclusion BUT one thing that is guaranteed, if it's done honestly, is that failure or success marriage-wise it will make you more Messiah-like and restore or improve your relationship with Yah'shua.

My friend, my heart goes out to you in your situation and your desperation to find happy resolution. None of us knows why we are permitted to go through the several hells that are permitted for us by El Elyon. The "wiser" I get (and I admit that is relative) the more I see that in truth Yahweh has a very clear agenda that serves our well-being, however obscured or invisible this agenda may seem to be in the height of our pain and frustration.

I still think the movie was an excellent one even though its context was a childless affluent middle class American family. Even without $'s I believe the principles are still adaptable. Everyone's situation will, in any case, be different, and everyone is going to have to use their imaginations and seek a little inspiration. There's probably no shortcutting the path of humility (and even humiliation) to tread the Path He trod, a lesson I am unfortunately still learning.

My heart goes out to you Yacoov for the trials you've been going through... may Yah bear you up and strengthen you, dear brother...

I can understand your concerns about the movie, though personally I don't think it centred around costing money...

I think in the context of the movie, when he was dared to buy a gift it was rather a way of showing something of where his heart was at that stage (a place where he was half-hearted or giving begrudgingly of himself) and to later show just how much Yah'shua had worked in his heart when he came to a place of covenant love in Yah'shua, where he would out of his own will lay down something dear to his heart fo her...
And I don't believe it has to be something that costs money, but its rather being willing to lay down things precious to us for the one we are seeking to love, like Yah'shua has loved us,
like spending time with your spouse that would have been spent on something else.

I recently got the Love Dare book the movie speaks off, and the dares aren't about spending money... but it may undoubtably cost us... The cost of loving the way Yah'shua loves.
The cost of forgiving and giving of ourselves... first to Elohim, and then to those close to us.

May Yah'shua bless and carry you, brother...

    Deb

A further ironic integration of everything. Thought it was kinda funny (at least in retrospect) so here it is.

Looked at a credit card bill today.
    "Hey, what's this $54.00 for?"
"Oh, I ordered that movie and the book."
"What?!? You mean you didn't rent it? $54.00!?"
"Well I thought I could put it in the church library..."

    sigh...

Your wife ordered the movie and book and put it in her church library?

Maybe it should be used first lol
