Testing Spiritual Gifts
Posted by Lev/Christopher on November 2, 2008 at 1:31am in Discipleship
The testing of all visions by anyone - Christian or non-Christian - is extremely important even if the traditional 'media' of psychics and others (like Tarot) are not used. Spiritual 'giftings' can come from Yahweh or Satan without our consciously having any premeditations to 'using' them. Many who have psychic gifts (which are not from Yahweh) who have not sought for them often discover during deliverance that they have, in fact, inherited a generational curse from an ancestor who was into active occult practice (like a witch, medium, etc.). Checking the family line, if that information is available, is important to see if you have some generational history of occult involvement from ancestors who were not properly aligned to Yahweh.
I say this because I myself was born with such a 'gift' and was aware of it even before I became a Christian. It wasn't until I came to faith in Yah'shua and began to look closely at my visionary 'powers' that I discovered that they were coming from two conflicting sources. It meant cutting all generational curses and ungodly ties to ensure that the dark source had been eliminated. For a person with a prophetic gift this can be a real difficulty because seeking for spiritual purity is the #1 priority to make sure that what is seen supernaturally is not coming from multiple sources. When, for instance, the priests and prophets of Israel and Judah began to compromise the commandments, invent new doctrines, and turn away from Torah, they began to get false revelation (Jeremiah, for example, had to deal with this brood of false prophets, as many other true prophets did). Balaam is an example of a man who was receiving revelation from multiple sources. At first he listened to, and obeyed, Yahweh, and spoke His Word, but subsequently prostituted his gift and led Israel into sin at Peor.
What this means is this: that someone (male or female) born with the gift of prophecy can use it for good or evil, depending the source he or she chooses, and whether he or she chooses to believe lies and false doctrines or not. It's a bit like someone being born with the gift of leadership - they can use it to become deliverers or tyrants. The same is true of the gifts of prophecy, seership, and so forth. There are many people in the world today with this gift who are very confused because they are seeing and experiencing revelation from multiple sources. Only by subjecting oneself to true doctrine and submitting fully to Yahweh can the two sources be separated out and a choice for one or the other be made.
I knew a young lady from Eastern Europe who not only had a brilliant mind but who also had the gift of prophecy. She would accurately foretell people's future and became much sought after. Since the prophecies nearly always came true, neither she, her mother nor her contacts had any reason to believe that her revelations came from Yahweh. Only later did I discover that she was receiving 'messages' from a 'civilization' on one of the planets in our Solar System. She showed me a book with the script and an entirely unknown language which had been revealed to her. Not until her sight started failing and she in desperation went to a Christian minister for help did the truth come out. When he blessed her with the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit) for healing, her sight returned and her 'prophetic gift' disappeared. It had all been from Satan.
I could tell you many such stories. We had one man who possessed incredible gifts but they were all counterfeit, even though he experienced many miracles. The upshot of all this is that if you have a gift your first priority must to test it and be prepared to relinquish it if it is not from Yahweh. The fact that you may have a prophetic gift will make you an especial target of the enemy who will want to waylay you. You should go through deliverance and have everything tested. One of the problems is that people get 'hooked' to their gifts - sometimes it's the power surge (from the demonic) that hooks them, sometime the notoriety, sometimes other things (like when they are fighting to get a sense of worth and the gift appears to give them that sense from admirers), etc.. Our world is so heavily saturated with demons that we dare not be complacent in these things. And if the gift goes, because it is demonic, then Yahweh will activate the real gifts he has given you and you will get satisfaction in serving Him through them.
