Cussing
Posted by Lev/Christopher on October 28, 2008 at 12:24pm in Discipleship
Where in the Bible does it say that cussing is a sin? I have heard cuss words, but I don't know where it came from that those certain words are cuss words. Who came up with them, and why are they wrong to say?
"Cuss words" is another way of saying curse words. To curse is the opposite of bless. When we pronounce a blessing on someone, it means that we want something good for that person. If we pronounce something bad, or evil upon someone, we want something bad to happen to that person. So you can see that cursing is sin, because Yahweh commanded us to love Him, and also our fellow human beings. (Luke 10:27).
There are other things we may say, that speak evil of Yahweh, and that is called " blasphemy". The Third Commandment tells us not to speak evil of Yahweh, or to speak about Yahweh in a foolish way. (Exodus 20:7). Sometimes people call these sayings "cuss words" but they are not really that. Actually, they are words of blasphemy. Blasphemy is also calling holy or set-apart things as though they are unholy.
There are other things people may say that are dirty words, or corrupt words, or hateful words. Even these words some people call "cuss words". But Yahweh's word tells us not to let any corrupt, or wicked, words come out of our mouths, but only good words which bless and help people. (Ephesians 4:29).
What we say with our mouths, comes from what is in our hearts. If our hearts are clean and pure and full of love, then we will say the things that are clean and pure and loving. We will try not to hurt people with our words. If Yah'shua (Jesus) lives in our hearts, we will try to be like Yah'shua, and want to say good things rather than bad things. (Luke 6:45).
Don't speak bad words, but good words only. Let Yah'shua live in your heart, and ask HIm to help you to speak only kind words and good words. Only say things that will help them, and not hurt them.
