Exposure to Earlier Flu Viruses Provides Many with Natural Immunity to H1N1, Scientists Find

(NaturalNews) Despite all the panic and hype about the H1N1 pandemic and the rush to immunize people in droves against the virus, the fact is -- so far -- the outbreak has been fairly mild. Now University of California (UC) Davis, researchers studying H1N1, formerly referred to as "swine flu," have identified a group of immunologically important sites called epitopes in the virus that are also present in seasonal flu viruses, which have been circulating for untold years. So what does this mean? If you were exposed to the earlier influenza viruses, you probably already have some level of immunity to H1N1.

The new study would explain why so many people over the age of 60 -- whose bodies were likely exposed to similar flu viruses over the decades -- have been found to carry antibodies or other kinds of immunity against H1N1. In fact, the CDC now admits pre-existing antibodies against the virus are found in about one third of H1N1 2009 patients over the age of 60, a fact that shows some natural immunity to the new H1N1 virus exists in many people.

"These findings indicate that human populations may have some level of existing immunity to the pandemic H1N1 influenza and may explain why the 2009 H1N1-related symptoms have been generally mild," researcher Carol Cardona, a veterinarian and Cooperative Extension specialist at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, said in a media statement.

Cardona and UC scientist Zheng Xing recently posted their findings online in the journal of Emerging Infectious Diseases. The study is also slated for publication in the November print edition of the journal, which is published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). "Our hypothesis, based on the application of data collected by other researchers, suggests that cell-mediated immunity, as opposed to antibody-mediated immunity, may play a key role in lowering the disease-causing ability, or pathogenicity, of the 2009 H1N1 influenza," Xing said in the media release.

Curiously, the new research suggests that although previous similar flu viruses seem to have produced antibodies in exposed people, these antibodies are not what are providing protection for those infected with the H1N1 2009 strain of influenza. Instead, Cardona and Xing theorize that instead of stimulating protective antibodies, the epitopes of the new H1N1 virus produce an immune response in a different way. The virus triggers production of cytotoxic T-cells that kill infected cells, attack the invading virus, and rev up the immune system.

Profit Driven Swine Flu Propaganda - Pump Up the Volume - Part Four

Those in control of the mainstream media have joined together with public health officials to provide the pharmaceutical industry with the best swine flu promotional campaign that money can buy.

In an October 7, 2009, OpEd News article titled, "The Centers for Disease Control: The Best Vaccination PR Firm Taxes Can Buy," the makers of the documentaries, "Vaccine Nation," and "Autism: Made in the USA," Richard Gale and Dr Gary Null wrote:

"If the flu season goes according to schedule, the vaccine industrial complex will be poised to join Wall Street for record year rip-off profits. We will also likely witness huge Pharma executive bonuses and perhaps gold-plated toilets.

"Even if the CDC statisticians' crystal ball used to forecast rampant swine flu infections turns into a complete bust -- which would only be one more added to many other failed flu predictions back to 1976 -- it will nevertheless be a very profitable failure as was the economic collapse for the banking cartel."

"In the US, such profits could never be accomplished without a dynamic, marketing initiative to convince Americans that vaccines will keep them protected and alive," they point out.

"And what better public relations machine for the vaccine complex, and all its supporters in health insurance and professional medical institutions, than our very own Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Health and Human Services?" they wrote.

The CDC is "formulating a $4.8 million multimedia campaign to encourage people to get vaccinated and help alleviate concerns and confusion, including radio and television public service announcements, print ads, and messages delivered via Twitter, RSS feeds and video podcasts on YouTube," according to the August 22, 2009 Washington Post.

Government health officials "are mobilizing to launch a massive swine flu vaccination campaign this fall that is unprecedented in its scope -- and in the potential for complications," the Post reported. "The campaign aims to vaccinate at least half the country's population within months."

The federal government "has spent close to $2 billion to buy up to 195 million doses of vaccine and adjuvant," according to the Post.

"The government is prepared to buy enough to vaccinate every person -- 600 million doses all together -- if the pandemic or demand warrants it," the report said. "That could increase the cost to $5 billion for the vaccine alone."

"It would cost at least $9 billion to administer the vaccine to the entire population, according to the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials," the Post advised.

There is nothing free about the flu vaccination campaigns in the US. Americans will end up footing the bill in one way or another, along with the medical care for persons injured by the vaccine.

"As always with pandemic flus, taxpayers are footing the $1.5 billion check for the 250 million swine flu vaccines that the government has ordered so far and will be distributing free to doctors, pharmacies and schools," ABC News pointed out on October 14, 2009.

"In addition," the report said, "Congress has set aside more than $10 billion this year to research flu viruses, monitor H1N1's progress and educate the public about prevention."

On October 5, 2009, the Associated Press advised that the H1N1 vaccine itself is free because the government bought it with your tax dollars. "But providers can charge a small fee for administering it, usually about $20. Regular flu shots tend to cost up to $35," the AP said.

Doctors are also set to profit greatly from administering the vaccines. The American Medical Association, which publishes Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), has even revised one CPT code and issued another for use in billing for H1N1 vaccines.

The changes "will streamline the reporting and reimbursement procedure for physicians and healthcare providers who are expected to administer nearly 200 million doses of the H1N1 vaccine in the U.S.," the AMA said in a statement.


Media as a PR Firm

"In too many ways, the mainstream media has become little more than a corporate mouthpiece, whoring itself out to the highest bidder / advertiser," warns Mike Adams, in the September 18, 2009, Natural News report titled, "Ten Swine Flu Lies Told by the Mainstream Media."

The "distorted reporting on the swine flu vaccine has been one of the greatest media frauds ever perpetrated," he says.

"The media has in every way contributed to the widespread ignorance of the American people on the subject of vitamin D and natural immune-boosting defenses that could reduce swine flu fatalities," Adams points out.

"Rather than informing readers," he says, "the MSM has made it a point to keep the people stupid, and in doing so, the media has failed its only mission and betrayed the very audience it claims to serve."

Vested Interest in Spreading Swine Flu Propaganda

The media moguls controlling the MSM world-wide have a vested interest in hyping the swine flu epidemic to boost sales of vaccines and funding for the vaccine research industry.

Rupert Murdoch is a major shareholder, chairman and managing director of News Corporation. News Corp was the world's second largest media conglomerate, behind Walt Disney Company, as of 2008, and the world's third largest in entertainment as of 2009, according to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia.

In late 2003, Murdoch acquired a 34 percent stake in Hughes Electronics, the operator of Direct TV, the largest American satellite TV system. In 2004, Murdoch announced that he was moving News Corp's headquarters from Australia to the US.

According to the Columbia Journalism Review, News Corp owns Fox Broadcasting Company and 27 Fox Television Stations in major cities all over the country, in addition to many cable channels, including the Fox News channel, and 20th Century Fox film companies and studios. News Corp also owns the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones.

On February 2, 2009, GlaxoSmithKline announced the appointment of James Murdoch, son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, as a non-executive director. Murdoch joined the company on May 20, 2009 and will also be a member of Glaxo's Corporate Responsibility Committee.

Murdoch is Chairman and Chief Executive of News Corporation, Europe and Asia, and "has direct responsibility for the strategic and operational development of News Corporation's television, newspaper and related digital assets in Europe, Asia and the Middle East," Glaxo noted.

Murdoch is in charge of "News International, owner of four British newspapers -- the Times, Sunday Times, Sun and News of the World," according to an article titled, "The Invisible Mogul: Meeting James Murdoch," by Sophie Barker, in the spring 2009 issue of "Intelligent Life Magazine."

"His TV channels reach 200m people across 60-odd countries," Barker reports.

The Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) is the largest research Institute in Australia specialising in child and adolescent health. "Located on the campus of the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, it is affiliated with the University of Melbourne," its website states.

Rupert Murdoch's mother, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, is the widow of Australian newspaper publisher, Sir Keith Murdoch. She married Keith Murdoch, 23 years her senior, in 1928 and inherited the bulk of his fortune when he died in 1952. She was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1963.

"It was through seed funding provided by Dame Elisabeth" in 1984, that the MCRI went on "to become the largest and most prestigious child health research centre in Australia," according to the February 7, 2009, Frankston Standard Leader.

Elisabeth is a life-governor of the Royal Women's Hospital and a Patron of the Murdoch Children's Research Institute, according to the Australian Women's Register.

In 2009, MCRI has "over 1100 researchers," the Leader reports. Rupert Murdoch's daughter-in-law, Sarah Murdoch, has been the ambassador for the MCRI and a member of the development board since 2000.
The MCRI has six research themes, including one for "Infection, immunity and environment," with research conducted at the "Centre for Clinical Research Excellence in Child and Adolescent Immunisation."

The CCRE is a joint MCRI, Melbourne University, and Menzies School of Health Research collaboration whose secretariat is located in the Department of General Medicine at the Royal Children's Hospital campus.

"Research focuses on clinical trials of new vaccines in healthy infants, children and adolescents, the epidemiology of vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) and evaluation of the impact of population-delivered vaccine programs, and mathematical modelling of vaccine-preventable diseases," the MCRI website advises.

Under "Collaborations," the site lists: "Promotion of collaborations with Australian and overseas immunisation researchers, policy-makers, service providers and the vaccine industry."

Under a heading titled, "Commercialisation," the website states: "The Murdoch Children's Research Institute invites interested parties to take up the opportunity to invest in its wide portfolio of commercial biotechnologies."

In a July 27, 2009 press release, MCRI announced that children "are being recruited for a pandemic H1N1 swine flu vaccine trial set to begin in Melbourne next week."

"About 100 Victorian children aged between 6 months to eight years are needed for the study, which will be run by the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and the University of Melbourne from as early as next week," the press release stated.

"They will be among 400 children recruited across five states for the Federal Government required trials of the vaccine, produced by Australian biopharmaceutical company CSL," it advised.

Four years ago, on October 4, 2005, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute issued a similar press release stating: "Bird flu vaccine trial to begin."

"TRIALS of a bird flu vaccine are set to begin in Melbourne this week as researchers prepare against the threat of an influenza pandemic," MCRI advised.

"The study, a collaborative project between the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and University of Melbourne, is being sponsored by Australian pharmaceutical company CSL Limited," the press release stated.

Media mogul, Mortimer Zuckerman, also has a research center named after him. On May 10, 2009, the New York Times reported that Zuckerman had "pledged $100 million to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the largest donation in the hospital's history and one of the largest ever given to an American medical center."

"Sloan-Kettering will name its new research center on the Upper East Side for Mr. Zuckerman, the real estate developer and owner of The Daily News and U.S. News & World Report," the Times noted.

"Zuckerman advances vaccine research and development at the Mortimer B. Zuckerman Research Center in association with the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and Rockefeller University," according to Dr Leonard Horowitz, a Harvard-trained authority in vaccinations and emerging diseases with a masters degree in public health, in a September 30, 2009, report by Sherri Kane.

Zuckerman is also a leading financier of the American Lyme Disease Foundation that heavily promoted GlaxoSmithKline's disastrous Lymerix vaccine, Horowitz says.

"This vaccine was pulled from the market following hundreds-of-thousands of reported cases of recipients suffering post-vaccination symptoms of Lyme disease," he reports.

The great bird flu hoax serves as an excellent example of use of the MSM to pump out fear mongering propaganda. On June 20, 2005, Zuckerman wrote a commentary in US News and World Report titled, "A Nightmare Scenario – H5N1 Pandemic," and stated:

"Should it develop certain genetic changes, international health experts warn, bird flu could spark a global pandemic, infecting as much of a quarter of the world's population and killing as many as 180 million to 360 million people--at least seven times the number of AIDS deaths, all within a matter of weeks."

"In the worst previous catastrophic pandemic, in 1918, more than 20 million died from the Spanish flu," Zuckerman wrote.

"We must prioritize research money to develop a vaccine, expand the production of flu vaccine, and stockpile antiviral medications," he advised.

On December 8, 2005, Bloomberg ran an article with the headline, "Bird Flu Pandemic May Cost U.S. Economy $675 Billion," in which Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist was quoted as saying, "A pandemic of bird flu in humans may cost the U.S. economy $675 billion, including lost work time and disruptions in supply chains."

This time around, on October 14, 2009, ABC News reported that "the Trust for America's Health, a Washington-based non-profit organization, estimates that a severe pandemic could push down GDP by more than 5 percent and cost Americans $683 billion."

"We're not seeing a pandemic that's this severe," says Jeff Levi, director of the group. "We've dodged a lot of bullets."

Last but not least, Thomas H Glocer is the Chief Executive Officer of the Thomson Reuters Corporation. On November 26, 2007, Merck announced that Thomas Glocer, Chief Executive Officer, Reuters Group PLC, "will join the Company's Board of Directors effective Nov. 27."

"Merck currently discovers, develops, manufactures and markets vaccines and medicines to address unmet medical needs," the press release stated.

As shown above, the mainstream media cannot be objective when reporting on the swine flu because it is riddled with conflicts of interest involving the vaccine industry.

Feds could shut down websites in a pandemic outbreak

(NaturalNews) The US government has issued a new report that recommends blocking access to popular websites during a pandemic outbreak in order to preserve internet bandwidth for investors, day traders and securities clearing house operations. The concern is that a pandemic would cause too many people to stay at home and download YouTube videos and porn, hogging all the internet bandwidth and blocking throughput for investment activities, thereby causing a stock market meltdown.

This isn't an April Fool's joke. It's all based on a public report issued by the Government Accounting Office (GAO), available from their website at http://www.gao.gov/new.items/d108.pdf

In this article, I'm going to explain how a pandemic outbreak could theoretically bring down Wall Street. But to get to that, you'll first need to find out what the GAO said in its curious report (see below). Parts of this article are presented as satire, but the underlying facts quoted here are all true and verifiable (links are provided to all sources).

This report in question is entitled, "GAO Report to Congressional Requesters, INFLUENZA PANDEMIC" and includes this subtitle: Key Securities Market Participants Are Making Progress, but Agencies Could Do More to Address Potential Internet Congestion and Encourage Readiness.

As the report explains:

In a severe pandemic, governments may close schools, shut down public transportation systems, and ban public gatherings such as concerts or sporting events. In such scenarios, many more people than usual may be at home during the day, and Internet use in residential neighborhoods could increase significantly as a result of people seeking news, entertainment, or social contact from home computers. Concerns have been raised that this additional traffic could lead to congestion on the Internet that would significantly affect businesses in local neighborhoods, such as small doctors' offices or business employees attempting to telework by connecting to their employers' enterprise networks.


Can Hulu, Twitter and porn destroy Wall Street?

To translate this concern of the GAO, what they're saying is that if too many people stay home and use the internet, Wall Street might not be able to function smoothly. Therefore, in order to protect Wall Street (because as you know, our government does everything possible to bail out Wall Street), the feds might need to shut down some popular websites.

But where, exactly, is all the bandwidth usage really coming from? Twitter uses virtually no bandwidth, given that it's a short, text-based messaging service. Text articles also don't use up much bandwidth. In terms of clogging the internet's "series of tubes" (to use a hilarious term coined by a U.S. Senator), the real culprits are videos. While a Twitter text message might be less than 1k in size, a typical video is 350MB, or roughly 350,000 times larger than a Twitter message.

So where, exactly, are people getting video downloads? The most popular non-porn video destinations today are MySpaceTV.com, YouTube.com, LiveLeak.com, Yahoo Video and Hulu.com. But as it turns out, even these highly popular websites may not account for most internet traffic.

P2P traffic uses the most bandwidth

According to this TechRepublic post (http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/t...), the majority of internet traffic is actually P2P traffic. Anywhere from 49 to 89 percent of all internet traffic reportedly falls into this category.

P2P traffic means "peer to peer." It's file-sharing traffic happening between two "peered" computers rather than from one central server to many individual computers. YouTube, for example, is a centralized video site that serves videos directly to millions of computers. The Pirate Bay, on the other hand (www.ThePirateBay.org) is a site that lists links to peer-to-peer sharing files so that individual computer users can share files amongst each other, bypassing centralized websites or file servers.

Peer-to-peer traffic carries the latest movies, music albums, television shows, ebooks, podcasts, graphic novels and even... yes... porn. A search on The Pirate Bay today shows downloads for Heroes Season 4 Episode 7 (350MB), the new Bruce Willis movie Surrogates (700MB) and even a bootleg version of the new Windows 7 operating system (3.5GB). These files are obviously not small. When peered computers share these files, it requires a tremendous amount of bandwidth.

Porn represents a sizable percentage of all P2P traffic. Although "official" statistics were difficult to find, according to TopTenReviews.com (http://internet-filter-review.topte...), internet pornography revenues in the U.S. were $2.8 billion (2006). There are 4.2 million porn websites on the 'net, and 25% of all search engine requests are porn-related. Importantly, this page claims that 35% of all P2P traffic is porn-related.

Where am I going with all this? Well, if you consider that roughly 50% of all internet traffic is P2P, and that roughly one-third of all P2P traffic is porn, then it quickly becomes obvious that if the GAO's pandemic clogging of the internet becomes a reality, porn might bring down Wall Street!

What this also means, however, is that cutting off access to specific websites (like YouTube) will likely do very little to free up internet bandwidth. To have any real impact on reducing bandwidth usage, the U.S. government would need to run public service ads begging internet users to stop downloading porn. The problem with that approach is that people who pirate porn are probably not the kind of people who obediently follow the advice of the feds.

Policing the internet

When it comes to saving Wall Street during a pandemic, the feds will stop at nothing. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) pulls out all the stops to make sure America's legalized financial gambling centers (Wall Street) keep on churning out the scams. This requires protecting the critical infrastructure of Wall Street.

As the GAO report explains:

"DHS is the lead federal agency for two critical infrastructure sectors... that are important for the Internet. Specifically, the entities within DHS responsible for coordinating national efforts to promote critical infrastructure protection activities for those sectors are the National Cyber Security Division and the Office of the Manager of the National Communications System (NCS), respectively. Although the vast majority of Internet infrastructure is owned and operated by the private sector, federal policy recognizes the need to be prepared for the possibility of debilitating disruptions in cyberspace. ...DHS is the central coordinator for cyberspace security efforts and has responsibility for developing an integrated public-private plan for Internet recovery."

The internet will be critical during a pandemic, the report goes on to say, because it will be an important vehicle for the government to distribute messages to the public (such as "Go get your vaccines..." or "Report to the nearest quarantine center"). It will also be important because millions of people might need to continue their work at home rather than showing up at the office and sneezing all over their coworkers.

"Increased use of the Internet by students, teleworkers, and others during a severe pandemic is expected to create congestion in Internet access networks that serve metropolitan and other residential neighborhoods. For example, localities may choose to close schools and these students, confined at home, will likely look to the Internet for entertainment, including downloading or "streaming" videos, playing online games, and engaging in potential activities that may consume large amounts of network capacity (bandwidth)."

The solutions, says the GAO, is to tell companies to send workers home and hope they get something done there: "Furthermore, the government has recommended teleworking as an option for businesses to keep operations running during a pandemic."

This part of the GAO report is particularly hilarious because, as every employer knows, when you give employees the ability to work from home, many of them spend the day at home goofing off and downloading porn! It's true: Most internet porn surfing activity occurs during work hours (9 to 5), and all those corporate porn filters that people have at work don't exist on their home computers. By sending employees home, companies will only be adding to the congestion of the internet, creating an even larger problem for Wall Streeters who are trying to extort yet more taxpayer dollars from the federal government to cover their failed investment gambles.

Now here's the kicker in all this: "According to a DHS study and Internet providers, this additional pandemic-related traffic is likely to exceed the capacity of Internet providers' network infrastructure in metropolitan residential Internet access networks. ...During a pandemic, congestion is most likely to occur in the traffic to or from the aggregation devices that serve residential neighborhoods, interfering with teleworkers' and others' ability to use the Internet."

In other words, all that pandemic porn downloading will bring the internet to its knees. The internet really begins to get jammed up at the "40% absenteeism" level, according to a 2007 DHS study mentioned in this GAO report: "The study's model predicted that at the 40 percent absenteeism level -- the level that health organizations have indicated is likely under a relatively serious pandemic -- the highest point of congestion across the entire Internet infrastructure could occur within residential Internet access networks."

Unfortunately for Wall Street, there is no way for anyone to tell the difference between the traffic of a porn downloader vs. the traffic of a Wall Street day trader. On the internet, all packets are (nearly) the same priority. So there's no simple way to prioritize traffic from some users ("important" Wall Street people) over other users. That means "porn packets" can't simply be rejected in favor of "Wall Street packets."

Shutting down websites

Even the GAO concedes that shutting down specific websites is a strategy fraught with problems, including potential lawsuits, technology limitations and the fact that blocking a few websites probably wouldn't result in much of an overall reduction in traffic anyway:

"Overall Internet congestion could be reduced if Web sites that accounted for significant amounts of traffic -- such as those with video streaming -- were shut down during a pandemic. According to one recently issued study, the number of adults who watch videos on video-sharing sites has nearly doubled since 2006, far outpacing the growth of many other Internet activities. However, most providers' staff told us that blocking users from accessing such sites, while technically possible, would be very difficult and, in their view, would not address the congestion problem and would require a directive from the government. One provider indicated that such blocking would be difficult because determining which sites should be blocked would be a very subjective process. Additionally, this provider noted that technologically savvy site operators could change their Internet protocol addresses, allowing users to access the site regardless. Another provider told us that some of these large bandwidth sites stream critical news information. Furthermore, some state, local, and federal government offices and agencies, including DHS, currently use or have plans to increase their use of social media Web sites and to use video streaming as a means to communicate with the public. Shutting down such sites without affecting pertinent information would be a challenge for providers and could create more Internet congestion as users would repeatedly try to access these sites. According to one provider, two added complications are the potential liability resulting from lawsuits filed by businesses that lose revenue when their sites are shutdown or restricted and potential claims of anticompetitive practices, denial of free speech, or both. Some providers said that the operators of specific Internet sites could shut down their respective sites with less disruption and more effectively than Internet providers, and suggested that a better course of action would be for the government to work directly with the site operators."

A better solution, it seems, would be to just urge people to stop using so much bandwidth. As this GAO report suggests, "...entities in these sectors consider advising employees to limit household use of streaming video or other bandwidth-intensive Internet activities."

And that, of course, takes us back to those public service announcements: Please stop downloading porn, you people! You're sucking up all the bandwidth and interfering with the important business of Wall Street ripping off America!

This brings me to the bizarre conclusion of this story: If a pandemic actually does result in a 40% absenteeism rate, and companies send people to work from home, and all public sporting events get cancelled, and people are sitting around on their home computers with nothing to do, porn downloads could cause a massive stock market crash by interfering with securities trades.

More importantly, such an activity could theoretically be organized and planned as a type of cyber assault on Wall Street. "Porn terrorists" could leap on this pandemic-inspired internet vulnerability to cripple Wall Street by flooding the internet with pornographic digital bits that squeeze out all other traffic, causing financial trades to grind to a halt. And this, in turn, could conceivably wreck the entire U.S. economy because, as we already know, the whole thing is being held together by the most fragile accounting illusions. One big blip in the system, and the whole corrupt, dishonest Wall Street scam comes train-wrecking down.

And that, my friends, is the bizarre truth of how pornography combined with a pandemic might bring down Wall Street.

This flu has never been labeled a "Pandemic." So far only about 1,000 have died from swine flu. If 1000 die every month for the entire flu season, that would be far less than the statistics for seasonal flu. Of course, since only a few people die from swine flu (or even regular flu), one can always focus upon the millions of people who come down with the disease. But comparing apples to apples, the swine flu threat is still far lower than seasonal flu.

And there does not seem to be much reason to think that the mortality rate will be any higher than with swine flu than with seasonal flu.

Finland's Health Minister tells us, however, that back in the late 1990's the U.N. made it mandatory for the nations signing the bill to inject people if the U.N. declared a "Pandemic." Last June the U.N. did so, on the grounds that the swine flu MIGHT become a Pandemic. That is what is behind the current decrees requiring vaccination.

The flu isn’t always thought of as a serious or life-threatening illness. Because of the dangers and complications it can have in older people, children, and people with health problems, the perception of flu severity is changing.

In the U.S., an estimated 25–50 million cases of the flu are currently reported each year — leading to 150,000 hospitalizations and 30,000–40,000 deaths yearly. If these figures were to be estimated incorporating the rest of the world, there would be an average of approximately 1 billion cases of flu, around 3–5 million cases of severe illness, and 300,000–500,000 deaths annually.

Flu-related deaths can result from pneumonia and from exacerbations of cardiopulmonary conditions and other chronic diseases. Deaths of older adults account for more than 90% of deaths attributed to pneumonia and influenza.

Canada enters 2nd wave of H1N1

"We are starting to see an increase in the number of people who are getting sick from H1N1," Aglukkaq said in declaring the start of the second wave.

"We've had some deaths this week. It is a serious situation."

The move into the second pandemic phase means that a drop in flu cases won't occur until enough people have been inoculated against the H1N1 influenza A virus either through vaccination or by contracting the virus, said Dr. David Butler-Jones, Canada's chief public health officer. He spoke to reporters via teleconference.

Health officials in British Columbia, Quebec and the Northwest Territories had already declared the start of a second wave, but this is the first time the same has been done on a national level.

Federal public health officials based their decision on four criteria, Butler-Jones said:

Canadians should rest assured that officials have been responding as if the second wave was already underway, she said.

On Wednesday, Aglukkaq authorized the H1N1 pandemic vaccine for use in Canada for everyone over the age of six months, and the vaccine is in the process of being rolled out in provinces and territories.

Clinical trials worldwide suggest that up to 85 per cent of healthy adults who are immunized will develop immunity within 10 days, Aglukkaq said.

Aglukkaq encouraged people to talk to their family doctor or public health nurse to get the facts about the vaccine, noting that she will be getting immunized and is recommending the same for her family.

Canada's vaccine order cost about $300 million, Butler-Jones said. Even taking into account the cost of delivering the vaccine, the price pales compared with the cost of not doing anything, he said.

Swine flu remains a disease in which the bulk of illnesses and hospitalizations occur among young people, a common characteristic of pandemic flu viruses.

"This remains largely a young person's disease," said Dr. Thomas Friden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. "But we're seeing it increasingly affect young adults as well as children."

In Canada, the median age of those who have become ill with laboratory-confirmed swine flu is 21, and the median age of those who died is 51, Butler-Jones said. Last week, about half of the people who died of the flu in the U.S. were teenagers.

Ontario has seen more requests for lab testing, more absenteeism in schools and workplaces, and more visits to emergency rooms, the province's chief medical officer of health, Dr. Arlene King, told reporters Friday.

Ontario will first offer the H1N1 vaccine to priority groups who will benefit most, King said. That includes people age 65 and under with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, healthy children between the ages of six months and five years, health-care workers and those living in remote and isolated communities.

Women who are more than 20 weeks into their pregnancy should talk to their doctor about receiving the vaccine that includes an adjuvant, or booster, King said. Healthy women in the first half of their pregnancy may wait to receive the non-adjuvanted form when it becomes available.

The federal government approved the H1N1 vaccine on Wednesday, and King said 722,000 doses of the vaccine will have arrived at the province's 36 local health units by the end of Friday, with a second shipment expected to arrive next week.

Ukraine closes all schools, cinemas over swine flu

KIEV (AFP) - Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Friday ordered a three-week closure of Ukraine's schools and cinemas in the toughest measures adopted yet to combat the swine flu virus in Europe.

"From today, all the school establishments in Ukraine -- be they private or public -- will be put on three weeks of holiday," she told her cabinet in comments carried on Ukrainian television.

Tymoshenko said the government would also be banning "all public gatherings, every concert and every cinema showing for three weeks."

The government will also introduce "special regimes" to limit the movement of Ukraine's citizens from one region to another for non-urgent purposes, she said. Ukraine has borders with four EU countries.

The prime minister's tough actions came as Ukraine confirmed its first deaths from the A(H1N1) virus, amid a growing panic over several dozen unexplained deaths in the west of the country.

Four people in Ukraine are now confirmed to have died from the virus, the secretary of the country's national security council Raisa Bogatyriova said, according to the Ukrainian presidency.

In the Ternopil region alone in western Ukraine, 30 people have died of unexplained causes in the last days, health ministry spokeswoman Lyudmila Gordon told reporters.

Tymoshenko also threatened to revoke the licenses of pharmacies that failed to stock the appropriate level of anti-flu medicine and masks.

"We can say today that Ukraine has entered into the zone of the swine flu epidemic," Health Minister Vassyl Kniazevich said.

AFP correspondents in Kiev and the western city of Lviv said there had been long queues outside pharmacies in the past days as the population stocked up on anti-flu masks.

Many students whose courses were cancelled in Lviv and Ternopil left the cities, while those who remained were frequently seen wearing masks in public places.

Lemons, a traditional anti-flu remedy, sold out at markets in Lviv while supermarkets were selling them at double price.

There is currently only enough anti-flu medication in Lviv to last three to four days but central authorities have promised to make additional deliveries, said Lviv governor Mykola Kmit.

Tymoshenko will travel to the affected western Ternopil region later Friday to visit the "epicentre" of the epidemic, a government statement said.

The country's politicians, including Tymoshenko, have just started official campaigning for presidential elections scheduled for January 17.

The prime minister on Saturday held a mass outdoor rally in the centre of Kiev attended by tens of thousands of people to mark her party's confirmation of her candidacy in the presidential race.

President Viktor Yushchenko, Tymoshenko's political arch-rival who is also standing in the elections, was due to hold his own rally on Sunday but it is now unclear whether this can go ahead.

Residents of Kiev meanwhile were asking pharmacies for masks and medication but these were not always to be found in stock.

How to get your doctor to sing Happy Birthday while he washes his hands (satire)

(NaturalNews) I recently saw a poster in a medical building that stopped me cold. It was about influenza, and it said the following: To avoid spreading germs, wash your hands for as long as it takes to sing Happy Birthday to yourself.

I did a double take. Really? Wash your hands while you sing Happy Birthday as a timing mechanism?

Apparently, this is an important bit of advice for teaching the masses how to successfully wash their own hands. I guess they couldn't use Row, Row, Row Your Boat because that song just goes on forever, and people would be stuck at the sink washing their hands like disturbed obsessive-compulsive hand washing addicts.

By the way, at the risk of descending into amateurish Valley Talk, I'm totally not making this up. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (the CDC) actually gives this same recommendation on their website, along with instructions on how to wash your hands. Upon seeing this poster, I remembered some important new research revealing that 100,000 Americans die each year from diseases caused by doctors not washing their hands.

Apparently, these doctors aren't following the Happy Birthday poster. They're probably stopping at "Happy Birthday to you..." and that's it. They need to continue with all the lyrics, most of which involve simply repeating the title of the song.

And if they really want to get their hands clean, they can continue scrubbing away while they append the additional words that are usually slurred along by some inebriated relative at every birthday party: "And many more..."


How to actually wash your hands

Now that we have the timing down, we need to review a bit of hand washing technique. Because, strangely, this is not widely known.

On this point, the CDC once again comes to our rescue with step-by-step instructions for how to wash your own hands.

Apparently, there are many wrong ways to wash your hands, and it is possible that doctors are stumbling with this point, causing a high rate of hand washing failure that ends up infecting patients. Did you know, for example, that all of the following actions result in hand washing failure?

• Forgetting to wet your hands before adding soap and rubbing them together.

• Forgetting to rub your hands together and just letting them hang there in the sink.

• Forgetting to rinse your hands, leaving them covered in soap and wondering why you're standing in front of a sink.

• Forgetting that you have TWO hands, and trying to wash one hand with itself.

• Forgetting why you are standing in front of the sink in the first place, humming the Happy Birthday song to yourself like a complete idiot because it's not even your birthday.

But wait! There's more to hand washing than just mastering the technique itself (and remembering all the words to "Happy Birthday"). It's also important to know when to wash your hands.

People who wash their hands when there's no need to wash them are called Obsessive Compulsive. People who don't wash their hands when they do need to wash them are called Physicians. Somewhere in between these two extremes, there's a correct amount of hand washing to be happily discovered, and the CDC wants to make sure you can locate this sweet spot without too much difficulty.

• Before preparing or consuming food (not after, because that's wrong).

• After going to the bathroom (not before, because that's wrong, too).

Right away, this brings up some complexities. What if, for example, you eat a slice of pizza while sitting on the toilet, as a few of my former college buddies were known to do? Do you wash your hands before such an event, or after? Or after each slice? Do you interrupt your toilet duty with hand washing just to make sure? Should you sing Happy Birthday to yourself on the toilet while washing your hands, or is that just too weird?

There's more:

• Before and after tending to a sick person (but not during).

• After blowing your nose or coughing up something (not before).

• Before and after treating a wound (but not during).

As you can see, it's all quite complex and confusing. Apparently, there are a thousand or so scenarios for which you're supposed to remember when to wash your hands either before something happens, or after something happens, or both before and after, and this all gets rather complicated very quickly, especially if your mind is preoccupied with that afternoon's golf game.

Wouldn't it be easier if we just invented some clever mythology and told people that the world is full of invisible microscopic germs that cause disease if they get inside your body, and they can get inside through the holes in your face, or holes in your skin. And the stuff that comes out of your holes should never get into other people's holes or you might infect them with your germs, and that's bad.

Armed with that information, people could sort of figure out for themselves when hand washing might be necessary: After picking your nose, before (and after) picking your friend's nose, etc.

Before handling your own food, unless you work in fast food in which case you can just fake like you washed your hands...

After shaking hands with Old Man Richard at the retirement center, because he smells funny...

Before conducting minor cosmetic surgery on your eyebrows with a pair of tweezers and a half-empty bottle of Russian vodka...

After touching fast food you just purchased, because you never know whether the greasy teen who made it washed his own hands...

You get the idea.

Germ Theory isn't rocket science. And neither is hand washing. So why can't our own doctors figure out how to wash their own hands? Probably because they're so busy patting each other on the back that they only have one hand free to wash most of the time, and as we pointed out above, one-handed hand washing doesn't work.

So how can you protect yourself from your non-hand-washing physician who brings you antibiotic resistant germs from the patient next door? You could, of course, just hum Happy Birthday as he enters the room and hope he catches the hint. Or you could do something else...

Reports today that Ukraine has shut down its schools, universities and cinemas, and banned public gatherings for the foreseeable future, has sparked fears that a new deadly strain of the H1N1 virus may have been released.

60 people have died of severe respiratory conditions in the past week – 4 confirmed swine flu deaths, and what are being described as 56 “unexplained deaths” in the west of the country.

Suggestions that the “unexplained deaths” might be due to the release of a more virulent strain of the H1N1 virus have caused widespread panic.

“We can say today that Ukraine has entered into the zone of the swine flu epidemic,” Health Minister Vassyl Kniazevich told the media. “The main objective is to identify the virus causing the disease, which is expected to take several weeks.”

“Special regimes” designed to limit the movement of Ukraine’s citizens are also being introduced in an attempt to prevent the spread of the mystery virus, according to the country’s Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko.

But it is the deaths in the west of the country which are causing most concern. According to Wolne Media nearly 10,000 people, half of whom are children, have been admitted to hospital in the past week with the “unusual and very rapid” illness.

Doctors describe the illness as a form of viral pneumonia, which they say is caused not by H1N1, but by a “new virus”.

“Tests are being carried out to establish what kind of virus is causing the sickness,” Radio Netherlands Worldwide reported yesterday. “The H1N1 virus which causes Mexican flu has been ruled out.”

Last count, more than 40,000 Ukrainians have so far contracted the mystery disease, while some 200,000 are logged as having contracted flu.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently confirmed that the A/H1N1 virus showed no signs of mutating, or becoming more virulent. Which leaves little alternative but to conclude that the virus is either a random mutation, proving the WHO wrong, or that it has been newly released.

Indeed, some believe we are dealing a new form of bio-weapon.

Writing in the Online Journal in April this year, investigative journalist Wayne Madsen reported that the A/H1N1 virus is “a human-engineered pathogen that could result in a widespread global pandemic.”

Madsen cited a Mexico City journalist as the source of his story, who told him that “a top scientist for the United Nations, who has examined the outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in Africa, as well as HIV/AIDS victims, concluded that H1N1 possesses certain transmission ‘vectors’ that suggest that the new flu strain has been genetically-manufactured as a military biological warfare weapon.

“The UN expert believes that Ebola, HIV/AIDS, and the current A-H1N1 swine flu virus are biological warfare agents.”

Certainly there are fears circulating the internet that Ukraine’s ‘new virus’ is a deadly bio-weapon released by the pharmaceutical company, Baxter International, which has a research facility in Ukraine.

Of note here is that Baxter was recently culpable for contaminating flu vaccine with the deadly H5N1 Bird Flu virus, as well as contaminating raw herapin imported from China, causing the deaths of 81 people.

More famously, Baxter was also responsible for contaminating ‘clotting substances’ for haemophiliacs with HIV, resulting in 10,000 Americans becoming infected with the deadly disease during the 1980s.

But what was the real reason for Moshe’s arrest?

Officially Joseph Moshe was arrested for calling the authorities and threatening to blow up the White House.

According to other reports, however, he was endeavouring to expose the fact that Baxter’s Ukraine facility had produced a bio-weapon disguised as a vaccine.

A growing number now suspect that the virus decimating the Ukraine could be the bio-weapon referred to by Moshe.

“Professor Moshe had called into a live radio show by Dr. A. True Ott, broadcast on Republic Broadcasting claiming to be a microbiologist who wanted to supply evidence to a States Attorney regarding tainted H1N1 Swine flu vaccines being produced by Baxter BioPharma Solutions,” reported The Flu Case.

And further: “He said that Baxter’s Ukrainian lab was in fact producing a bio-weapon disguised as a vaccine. He claimed that the vaccine contained an adjuvant (additive) designed to weaken the immune system, and replicated RNA from the virus responsible for the 1918 pandemic Spanish flu, causing global sickness and mass death.”

We should perhaps note that Moshe revealed this information in August, a full two months and more before the Ukrainian ‘flu’ epidemic broke out.

But whatever we’re to make of this story, perhaps the strangest twist is that, following his arrest, Moshe was released without charge and repatriated to Israel—a remarkable outcome for a ‘lone nut’ accused of threatening to blow up the White House.

Something tells me there are chapters yet to be written, that this story is far from over…

The public is in a trance by the media who tells them to get the vaccine at the command of the pharmaceutical companies and Big Brother government who CONTROLS and OWNS the mass media in the first place. Their job is to do the bidding of these pharma companies and government agencies - to be their talking puppets brainwashing the masses on how to perceive reality and what to think.
- Baxter, which is a vaccine manufacturer, was caught earlier this year putting live bird flu in their vaccines in Austria. This obviously did not make headline news as they do not want you to be informed of what took place. However, if you do your own research you can find the information. It is out there. If they infected their vaccines with live bird flu what makes you think they wont do it with these vaccines?
- The government and vaccine makers will be immune from any lawsuit that occurs from the deaths and injuries caused by vaccines. How very coincidental that they are protected from what they know will kill and injure many around the world.
- The governments and elite have time after time told us they want to depopulate the world - what better way then to infect us through vaccines or sterilize us through it. It has been done in the past and history always repeats itself. If your under the impression that the government loves you and has your best interest at heart - then your just a brain dead slave and you deserve what you get when you take this vaccine.
- The governments also hyped up the 1976 swine flu just as they are doing now and many took the vaccine and become ill, paralyzed and 25 people actually died from the vaccine itself. More deaths occurred because of the vaccine than the number of people that actually died from the swine flu itself.
- The government has manipulated the masses into believing that only vaccines can prevent or cure the flu or illnesses, but in actuality - they cause and create them. Vaccines are MAN-MADE and the makers have an interest in making money off the vaccines. Moreover, when they get you sick through their vaccines - you end up giving them more money because you will end up buying more drugs and products from pharmaceutical companies to battle the illness and side effects you have gotten from taking vaccines. See how the game is played? It is a never ending cycle of buying products and drugs to perpetuate profit making for the government and these drug companies.
