The Kroger (a grocery store) my brother works at does the same thing: pours bleach on food items before tossing them into the trash.

Noted, they do donate some of the food to food pantries, but its usually the "worst of the worst" and near expiration when they do.

Yah have mercy on these people.

There is a Wal-mart 'trashing' facility in our city. They destroy tons of good items, food, clothing, toys, bicycles, etc. Much of what is returned that they can't put back on the shelves. Lots of things nothing wrong with the item at all. I think it is sick. And done for fear of liability and not paying for personnel to sort and distribute the items. They want more billions in profit but I wonder just how much they are saving or is it really costing more since they have whole facilities to destroy the goods...

It's criminal - like the EU 'butter mountains' and 'wine lakes' which build up because of government subsidies - but instead of letting over-taxed EU citizens have this food they ship it off elsewhere outside Europe free.
