Sacred Names, Titles from a Hebrew Linguistic Perspective.

This message by Yoseph Viel has totally changed my thinking on the topic. (Right click to open in a separate window so that it can play independently). He takes a very logical linguistic look at the proper way to do things, and also cuts out a lot of the disinformation that is widespread in Messianicsm. There is a lot of information covered here, quite complex. I had to listen to it several times just to get a coherent summary.

The actual cause, movement, people of YHWH are called many things in Scripture, of which the Way is certainly a valid descriptive. Unfortunately many of these excellent labels have also been co-oped by cults with whom they tend to be associated.I see such terms as "Followers of the Way", "Christian", "Nazarenes", etc., as simply the natural tendency of man to identify and qualify. I don't have any problems with any of them. Whilst I understand the point of the label "Yahwhist" I also see that this is associated with a lot of Messiah-rejectors including those who accept the humanity of Messiah but reject His Deity. (Incidentally, liberal academics/theologians coined and first used the "Yahwist" lavel to describe what they term the Old Testament 'cult'). The same with "Messianic" which includes all sorts of heretics these days, but to most represents Messianic Judaism in particular. In every age there is the need to distinguish and clarify. When Yah'shua returns we can no doubt dispense with most of these terms.

But I think we were here in this thread more concerned in defining our Elohim-head/Godhead belief. I think we have pretty much narrowed the field to 4 or 5 terms which get over our message neatly.

The early church/Elect Ones referred to themselves, and were called by others as 'The Way'.
Instead of trying to find a single word to describe the intricacies of YHWH, why not use a name such as The Way. As for a definition, I think (Messianic) Yahwism is good enough.

    From Wikipedia:

"...Since the Greek word Christos is the translation of Messiah or "anointed," the Hebrew word for Christians could have been Meshikhiyim (Messianics)...."

Meshikiyim. I was very intrigued by this one. What do the people of the 10 tribes think of this suggestion?

I had to chuckle at your post because of the way many Messianics are eager not to be called Christians (because they are keen to avoid the taint of paganism...yet as we have seen Messianism has its pagan taintings too). To me it makes no difference whether a believer is called a Christian or a Messianic since they are, as you point out, the same word. What's important in the end is the life you lead, not the label you wear.

Do all three of us have a conflict of interest because of our birth names (Christopher, Christian, and Christopher)? just kidding ; )

To be Messianically correct, we need to be renamed Meshikhopher ;)

I think that ultimately, we will just be called Israel / Yisrayel, when the time comes for gathering.
In that day, we will all forsake any previous names and denominations we may have identified with.
