O What a Savior by hymnist Marvin P. Dalton in 1948

    Lyrics

Once I was straying in sin's dark valley,
No hope within could I see,
But up in Heaven there is a Savior,
who saved a poor lost soul like me,

    O what a Savior, O hallelujah!
His heart was broken on Calvary,
    His hands were nail scarred,
    His side was riven,
He gave His life-blood for even me.

He left the Father with all His riches,
    With calmness sweet and serene,
Came down from Heaven and gave His life-blood,
To make the vilest sinner clean.

    O what a Savior, O hallelujah!
His heart was broken on Calvary,
    His hands were nail scarred,
    His side was riven,
He gave His life-blood for even me.

Death's chilly waters I'll soon be crossing,
His hand will lead me safe o're,
I'll join the chorus in that great city,
And sing up there forever more.

    O what a Savior, O hallelujah!
His heart was broken on Calvary,
    His hands were nail scarred,
    His side was riven,
He gave His life-blood for even me.

Do you know if the melody is online?

Lev, I uploaded this song done by the Cathedrals to my home page here. So many memories of those guys, they came to our church we were attending several times in the 80's and we were truly blessed. Sincere brothers of the faith and many of them gone on ahead to their reward. I can remember vaguely the older gentleman who was the father and grand father of some of the ones in the band and his concern over the later generation(s) and the times we were headed into even then. So many things we have become used to in this world of today were not even heard of then of the vile things to the idols and toys of modern man. And what have all of these things done to our children. What a savior we do need and he still overcomes all! Shabbat Shalom!

I added a few others from the Cathedrals. A blessing to think on our kingdom in music and song!
