IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - Ning Is Pulling the Plug on Free Groups

    in Forum

    Shalom Shalom

As some of you may already have heard, Ning has decided to pull the plug on all free Networks in the near future. This means that all networks will become fee-paying, the same as they did at MSN and elsewhere. I suppose we should have seen it coming, given the recession and market competition.

We are not sure what we will do here though we will shut down our Scandinavian and Deliverance networks fairly quickly. It is frustrating having invested so much time and labour into building a site only to have to keep hopping from one free network to another. This is something we can't do indefinitely.

With people here belonging to lots of different networks and so having divided loyalties I think it unlikely that many would want to make financial contributions to pay for the new Ning fees, whatever they may be. Apart from that, people are short of cash generally. Also you will be getting begging notes from most of the other networks you belong to in due course.  So unless some donors come along when we announce the need for contributions, I think we can safely assume that this Network will be closing down if not immediately it becomes free-based then at least shortly afterwards. We won't be nagging you for cash as some ministries do.

Rather than join yet another free network and be told to "cough up or move on" again at some point down the line we shall hopefully be introducing some blog features into our own website after it has undergone a complete redesign and upgrade. This way we will automatically be able to save your comments for future reference and permanently incorporate them on the website. These will only disappear when the NWO finally shuts us down altogether, and goodness knows when that will be.

In the meantime, if anyone has any free time on their hand and would like to help with ARCHIVING this Ning Network for inclusion on our website, please get in contact with us. We only managed to partially archive our old MSN networks before they were closed down too. We will devise a strategy and divide up the labour once we know who wants to help- The sooner we start the better.

I am sorry to bring you this bad news - though you'll be getting it from all the other groups you belong to too. However, all things work for the good so we can only assume that better opportunities lie ahead.

If you run other groups and feel you have enough commonality with us to "combine forces" and share expenses, this is also a consideration.

Thank you for your patronage and support here over the years.

    Yahweh bless

    Christopher/Lev

Will notices / news be posted on the main site?

I have most of my articles / blogs etc as text files, I recommend this to anyone not wishing to lose their writings in the abyss of shut-down websites.

People have only until 4 May to recover/save their materials - that's less than 3 weeks. We will try to migrate ME to another site thoughthe history of success of migrations is poor and Ning seems to be a virtually unknown qualtity. The new CEO says Ning will offer "help" but I am sceptical. Our migraton from MSN to another site was a disaster so we had to start from scratch in Ning. Quite honestly I don't have the time or energy to try and reconstruct ME elsewhere on a site that might start charging too. One possible only offers 10GB of free space - that could change as this is a competitive market. Ning is probably going to charge about $10/month for continued use. I notice, incidentally, that some of its features have already started to be turned off, like links to Facebook.

I can't say what will appear on the main site as of yet but yes, there will be a news and notices page the festivals and other assemblies are already announced on http://www.nccg.org/chart-festivals.htm . As some of you may wish to retain email contact, I will provide an email before NIng takes us off the air. I have a small page on Facebook but I understand that that too is soon to go commercial.

Things constantly change an I guess we will just have to move with that.

    WACKWALL is free.

    SPRUZ is free

I am investigating number of possible replacement sites and I am looking into them. Only a couple so far match up to Ning standards and even then "not quite". I have already started archiving materials but this is time consuming and I am not sure I can manage this in the short time that's available. I haven't even had time y to put what archive we managed to retrieve from the older MSN groups so goodness knows when I will be able to get all this material up.

Some are urging us to save the Ning Group at all costs to preserve continuity. One brother very kindly wrote:

"Why not find out the cost then see if members will make a monthly pledge toward it. I know this is chancy, but I certainly would make a commitment."

I don't know what the costs will be yet though I have heard $10/month. If just ten members would commit $1/month we could make this work. I guess it depends how much you love the ME Network. If anyone would like to step forward and make a commitment, please either email me privately in ME Ning or let us know in this thread.

as things stand right now, I am contemplating a much simpler replacement network for fellowship and the possibility of incorporating a feature into nccg.org to allow people to comment ion articles. This may take many months to set up, though.

Thank you again for all your continuing support.

I have researched many different groups now and it seems none actually enables you to transfer more than membership lists so it will not be possible to migrate groups forums and blogs as I had hoped. This means that practically everything here will, regrettably, be lost so if you want to save anything, now is the time to do it.

If anyone would like to help archiving please get in contact with me. The archive will be put on the nccg.org website. The procedure would be to create a folder for each group and then cut and paste posts sequentially into an .rtf file (MS WordPad), one file per thread, recording the name of the poster and the date posted. There are so many fine posts here that it would be a great shame to lose them. There is no need to record articles taken from the nccg.org website (as in the Devotionals and Sermons groups) though for continuity we would need the title and URL.

If you'd like help get in contact with me and I can assign you a group.

I have a replacement network though it will sadly not be as fancy nor versatile as Ning. I am still hoping we can save Ning ME if there are enough donors but with only three offers so far this isn't nearly enough. I am not sure I have the energy or time to maintain as comprehensive a network as this Ning one in the future considering there are already many Watchmen (and women) on the net who are keeping good track of (for example) world events.

We have only ~10 days before Ning pulls the plug so please get in contact a.s.a.p if you are interested in archiving or donating.

Finally, are there any computer whizz kids here who might know how to save an entire website such as this one I have heard such programs exist but I don't know if they are legal. That would by far be the most time-effective way to archive this network.

    Thank you again.

You should work out what all members should contribute to cover the cost of the messianic ning website and post it on the main page,i allready pay for some sites which are only a very small price.
