It is not about Me
Personal blog posted by Scott Ledbetter on February 13, 2010 at 10:06am
In our walk with Yeshua, one thing that we must learn as quickly as possible is that it is never about ourselves. There is only one phrase that we ever utter that contains me, myself, and I. That is: As for me, I die to myself daily so that the Messiah can live in me. “I am crucified with the Messiah: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but the Messiah liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of YHVH, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
Our focus and goal must be totally on doing His will. It means that whenever you are able to serve others before yourself, you are to do so. On the list of priorities in life, your name will always come last. This applies in everything. Even when you are being tempted. If you are denying yourself and doing the King’s work, then the King will make sure you are taken care of. “Then said Yeshua unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” (Matthew 16:24-25)
But you say, “Brother, when I am fighting the flesh, I need help.” You most certainly do, but the temptation is an effort by the Adversary to derail you and get you to stop serving the King. We are not the only ones in the world serving Yeshua. Are we not all a part of His body? Elijah had to be reminded of this as well. We are not the only ones fighting in the King’s army. In the listing of the armor of YHVH, what piece of armor protects our backs? There is nothing, because it is our brothers and sisters in the Messiah which have our back. Do you think the Adversary only attacks from the front? He attacks wherever our weakness is.
We should let our brothers and sisters in the Messiah know what we are struggling or struggle with so that they can know how to fight the enemy off of us. James chapter 5 and the first part of verse 16 tells us to “Confess your faults one to another.” Whether it is something we know we struggle with, are being tempted with, or have given in to temptation, we need to let our fellow soldiers in the King’s army know so that they can help us. While you are protecting them, they are protecting you. “Bear ye one anothers burdens, and so fulfil the law of the Messiah.” (Galatians 6:2)
They, nor you, should never use this information to hurt another person. First Corinthians chapter 6 tells us to never take a brother or sister in the Messiah before the civil authorities, which include calling the police. We all struggle with things, and we must make sure not to bite and devour one another trying to control others. Remember, it is not about you.
