I Need a Touch!!!
Personal blog posted by Lahry Sibley on May 29, 2009 at 11:05am
I NEED A "TOUCH"!!!!
What a common phrase among church folks. "I'm looking for a touch". "I need a touch". Evidently they missed the part where that Shekinah Glory came out of the Holy Of Holies and consumed the sacrifice. It got a "touch". So did Aaron's sons when they tried to burn incense with unholy fire. Zap! You sure you want a "touch" from God? What about when Ezekiel rebuilt the altar? He placed an "offering" on it. God not only consumed the offering, but the altar as well. Do you have anything for an offering? Are you sure you want a "touch"?
What would you do with the "touch" if you got it, whatever form it may be in? Is it just to make your warm and fuzzy inside?
I've been on the platform Sunday after Sunday just like most of you have, looking at church folks. They come in with the longest faces. They look worn out. Most of them leave the same way. Prayers are most often asked for physical ailments of some form or another. Now and then you will hear a request for prayers for salvation, or release from addictions. You see the same folks, week after weak (typo on purpose).
The Bible says that God inhabits the praises of His people. When I see long faces come in, I have to assume they have not been praising Him and therefore enjoying His presence because in His presence there is fullness of joy and His joy in someone is very difficult to contain. It just bubbles out.
Now I realize that in some cases, this is not certain, but I do believe for the most part, that we can assume that there has not been much praise and worship going on in these folks lives since the last time we saw them in the prayer line. Therefore, there is no joy. Because the Bible says that in His presence there is fullness of joy. Alleluia. Furthermore, it says that the Joy of the Lord is our strength. Glory to God.
No joy? Then whose presence have you been in? What "word" have you been listening too? What spirit have you been connected with? Believe me, there is always spiritual connection of some sort lurking about. If it is not the Holy Spirit, the Joy Maker, then it is a spirit that is not around for our blessing and wholeness, spiritually speaking or physically speaking. It is there for our destruction.
Of course our flesh doesn't need a lot of help. If we are not following after the Holy Spirit, then we are likely following after the dictates of our flesh. This may produce some form of temporary contentment. But it will not, it cannot produce joy. Joy comes from being in His presence. His presence is often found in His praise. Those who have learned this secret continually gas up on Holy Joy. When they walk in the church building, it's like a light that comes in. Very enviable. Very evident.
This joy is not for a select few. It is for whosoeverwill take hold of full confidence in God's love and protection and realize that He is more than able to manage all the difficulties and trials in our lives with love, protection, and wisdom. When we learn to walk in that kind of faith, we begin to learn to give thanks and praise in all things.
Guess what. God's presence begins to manifest itself in our hearts and lives. How? Joy! Joy! Joy! Unexplainable Joy! Peace, confidence in His great love for us. I also find that walking in obedience to the Holy Spirit helps a lot too. What about you?
