How do we know we know Him, and He knows us?

Personal blog posted by Lahry Sibley on October 14, 2009 at 8:37am

How do we know we know Yahweh, and Yahweh knows us?

Do we know Him? Or do we know of Him?

Yahweh never intended for us to be uncertain about our rightstanding with Him. We know when we know Him and He knows us. How do we know that we know? We must of course go to the Word of Yahweh.

In the following passage from Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus addresses the actions of church folks in our day who claim they know Yahweh. Let’s read it together……

Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Mat 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
Mat 7:18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Mat 7:19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
Mat 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Sounds charismatic and/or Pentecostal, doesn’t it? Prophecying, casting out devils, working miracles? Now, please note, the Word does not say they actually did these things, but only “said” that they did these things.

Yah’shua told us that a good tree cannot bear bad fruit and a bad fruit cannot bear good fruit. We are not to judge others, but we can judge the fruit they bear.

Embarrassingly, it is much easier for us to judge the fruit of others rather than judging ourselves. But Yah’shua told us to get the mote out or our own eye, before we worry about the fruit of others. It is difficult to see clearly with a log in our eye. We must get our own life in order, our own walk before others in order before we reach out to others. The necessity of this could not be more important.

“Depart from me” is not an option. We must know that we know, that we know Him and He knows us. Amen? Amen! So let’s take a look at our own hearts, you know , the one Yah’shua will judge on judgment day…..

Rom 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
Rom 6:17 But Yahweh be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Rom 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Please, please note, in vs 16, that all men will serve one of two things, sin or obedience unto righteousness. If you say “obedience, obedience to what”? Sin is lawlessness, law breaking. So what is obedience unto righteousness obedient too? You say the Holy Spirit? Amen. Does the Holy Spirit lead a soul in disobedience to the Holy Law of Yahweh? I hope you answer no.

Crysostum put it this way. He said, the law of Yahweh leads us to Yah’shua, Yah’shua then leads us back to the law. The law of Yahweh was, is now, and ever shall be the standard whereby we know righteousness from lawlessness.

Yah'shua said we cannot serve two masters, but we will serve one or the other. The only freedom we have is to choose which one we serve. Servant’s do not act on their own! The whom they are serving dictates everything they do and who they are. So if we choose sin unto death, we are servants of our flesh. But if are obedient unto righteousness, we walk after and serve the Lord through the Holy Spirit.

2Co 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Yah’shua the Messiah is in you, except ye be reprobates?

What criteria are you using for your personal assessment? How will you know you are ok, if there is no standard to refer too?

Tit 1:15 Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
Tit 1:16 They profess that they know Yahweh; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

There are many who claim to profess they know Yahweh, in Yah’shua’s day and in the day we live in. Many are even in pulpits. But what of their works? No, we are not saved by works, but we do live by them.

Jas 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

The sign of born again life for the believer is his works. Yah’shua said that we should so let our light shine before men, that them may see our good works and glorify Yahweh. Notice He did not say our “good words”. Actions speak louder than our words, so do our fruits. No good works, no born again life.

1Jn 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

Tah Dah!!!! John gives us the answer, straight from the hip. We know we are in personal relationship with Him when we keep His commandments. We follow His orders. Paul told Timothy that a good soldier does not concern himself with the affairs of the community. He has committed himself to the one he volunteered to serve, and has no free time to go off on private ventures. We’ve got too many church folks out on private ventures, beloved. We are His 24/7 or we are lost! Why? Because Yah’shua is the true vine, and we are the branches. There is no such thing as a part time living branch. Separate a branch from the vine and the branch will whither and die! Come on somebody! This is eternally important!

1Jn 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Those who refuse to present themselves as a living sacrifice, dead to the world and the world dead to them, often hide behind this verse….

Rom 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Please consider this. What Paul is saying is that “lawlessness” shall not have dominion over us. We are not under the just punishment for our past lawbreaking because of the Messiah. Please don’t take this scripture in vs 14 out of context and place your carnal living life in eternal jeopardy! For the next vs says this….

Rom 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? Yahweh forbid.

Shall we become lawless because we are under grace? Yahweh forbid! Saints, please hear me! He does FORBID!!!! He has always forbid lawlessness and idolatry. Why? Because He loves us. He knows better than any man that the wages of sin is death, but the gift from Yahweh is eternal life. The good Shepherd, through the Holy Spirit leads us in righteousness (obedience), not lawlessness.

1Jn 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of Yahweh perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

Blessed assurance, Yah’shua is mine, oh what a foretaste of glory divine! Those who keep His Word know they are immersed in Him. As I understand it ,beloved, if you don’t believe this, you must throw all of 1 John out, and so much more of the Word of Yahweh along with it. You might just as well write your own “holy book” to suit yourself. But you can be sure of this, Yahweh does not know YOU!

1Jn 2:29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

How would anyone of reasonable intelligence conclude otherwise? Yet they often do. “I can live like the world under grace and put on my sanctimonious smile on Wednesday and Sunday and everything is fine between me and Yahweh.” The Word of Yahweh calls you a liar! Hypocrite!

1Jn 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
1Jn 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, Yahweh is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
1Jn 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward Yahweh.
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.

Glory to Yahweh! Condemnation is the result of lawlessness (commandment breaking). So you might jump from your seat and quote this verse….

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in the Messiah Yah’shua,

Ah, did you notice the comma at the end of the verse? Why? Because that is not the end of the verse. That is usually the end of the quotation, when folks use this verse with a twist, but lets look at the whole thing, shall we?

Rom 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in the Messiah, Yah’shua, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Are you going to try to attempt to tell me that the Holy Spirit will lead you into lawlessness? Or permit you to keep your carnal love of sin and feed your flesh as you chose without consequence? If so, you truly are deceived. Please read on, you need this! Some will say, “oh but the last half of that verse is not in some manuscripts”. Perhaps. But let’s read on. We will see that it matters not. Continue on in Chapter 8…..

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in the Messiah, Yah’shua hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
Rom 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, Yahweh sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
Rom 8:4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
Rom 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

The very nature of the flesh is sinful (lawless, disobedient). The flesh is condemned to corruption. That is why it cannot be pacified or regenerated, it can only be crucified! (Romans 12:1) Please note vs 4, “the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh”. Dead people do not walk after the flesh! Flesh and it’s sinfulness must be put to death in order for us to rise up in the newness of life! Oh I hope you’re getting this.

Who are those who mind the things of the flesh? Look at the fruit in their lives, beloved. Look at the fruit in your own life. Most of their life is consumed with minding the things of the flesh! They can’t get away from it, and it’s sinfulness because its very nature is lawlessness, commandment breaking! Listen to what they talk about. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh!

How is the law fulfilled in us? We follow the Spirit Who leads in righteousness and obedience. Show me someone who says they need not be concerned about their carnal living because the Messiah fulfilled the law for them and I’ll show you someone who is deceived!

1Jn 4:12 No man hath seen Yahweh at any time. If we love one another, Yahweh dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
1Jn 4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

We “know” because we have His Spirit. Our nature is changed by the Spirit, not by us. The new nature is a nature of love and obedience. The law is the standard by which all acts are judged, be they obedient or not. The law is condemnation to the lawless, but comfort to the righteous. Oh halleluia! I can look at the law and KNOW! Why? Because I live my life to keep it, and it comforts me. I don’t keep it to be born of Yahweh. I keep it because I am born of Yahweh into His HOLY family and my life has been swallowed up by His life as He immersed me into it. I’m hidden in Messiah!! Glory to Yahweh! I know it! I know it! I know it!

1Jn 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Yah’shua is the Messiah, is born of Yahweh: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
1Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of Yahweh, when we love Yahweh, and keep his commandments.

1Jn 5:3 For this is the love of Yahweh, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous(emphasis mine).

Commandments are only grievous to those who do not wish to keep them. Hear me please! Obedience is a joy and a comfort for the righteous, but a scourge for those who are bent on lawless. Those that are not His, can’t help but sin. The old nature is still alive and it lives to sin, and sin lives in it!

1Jn 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of Yahweh; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of Yahweh.

Praise the Lord. You can “know” beloved. I want you to know. Yahweh wants you to know. That is why He so carefully guarded His Word and preserved it for us all these centuries. He wants us to be saved, born into His family. He wants us to have blessed assurance in Him. He provides the power to change our old nature and give us newness of life. But it is not forced upon us, we must choose life, individually. To choose life, we must first choose death, death to self. Then, and only then, are we ready for His new life in us. That new life is a life of worship, holiness, purity, devotion, piety, and obedience.

1Jn 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of Yahweh sinneth not; but he that is begotten of Yahweh keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

Yahweh births us into His family, by faith, our faith in the atoning sacrifice of His Son Yah’shua. Our faith in the deliverance and redemption that He provided when He alone suffered the wrath of Yahweh for our sin, that was due to be poured out on us. He gave His life, so we could receive His.

Yahweh only desires one thing that we have…..our hearts. We were created for fellowship with Yahweh. Yahweh cannot have fellowship with SIN(lawlessness). It must be cleansed FIRST! We must be crucified with the Messiah if we are expected to live and reign with Him. His bride is without spot or wrinkle. His bride does not look for scriptural “loop holes” with which to hide and justify lawlessness. Selah!
Fast forward to near the end of the story….

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of Yahweh, and the faith of Yah’shua.

The saints are they that keep the commandments of Yahweh, and faith of Yah’shua. Our obedience, His faith for us in us. We know we are His. How do we know? Simple. We keep His commandments and our faith in the atoning sacrifice of Lamb of Yahweh Who taketh away the sins (lawlessness) of the world. Has He taken away your sinfulness? Has your nature been changed? Or are you still bound by sin that strangles all attempts at good works and keeps you addicted to the wages of death?

Yahweh wants us to know. Knowing cannot be counterfeited. It is easy to prove that we do know Yahweh, and He in fact knows us. We keep His Holy Commandments from a heart of joy and thanksgiving, a heart of love for Yahweh and for our fellow man, a heart of peace. There is no law against that! Selah! - Lahry
