    Forbidden Longings

Personal blog posted by Scott Ledbetter on July 13, 2009 at 3:30pm

"Men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of YHVH; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” (2 Timothy 3:2-8)

The Scripture clearly says that people will be led away by their own motley of forbidden longings. They give themselves over to these passions and want to only hear news that they will be permitted to partake in those forbidden passions. “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
These people, who are under bondage to their own forbidden passions, will defect from the truth – apostasia. They will turn to muthos (GSN 3454) which means a tale; a fiction ( myth ). They do not want to know about absolutes; neither do they want to know the Truth. The truth is abhorred while the lie is propagated.

But the Word has told us much about the truth. “Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, He doeth the works.” (John 14:10) “If ye love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15) “If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in His love.” (John 15:10) “Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:14) The Scripture also says, “He that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.” (1 John 3:24) But here is the key to all of this: “If a man love Me, he will keep My words: and my Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him. He that loveth Me not keepeth not My sayings: and the word which ye hear is not Mine, but the Father's which sent Me.” (John 14:23-24)

Thus says the Scripture, “Behold, YHVH's hand is not shortened so that it cannot save, nor is His ear heavy so that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have come between you and your Elohim, and your sins have hidden His face from you, from hearing. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue has muttered perverseness. None calls for justice, nor does anyone plead for truth; they trust in vanity and speak lies. They conceive mischief and bring out iniquity. They hatch adders' eggs and weave the spider's web; he who eats their eggs dies, and that which is crushed breaks out into a viper. Their webs shall not become clothing, nor shall they cover themselves with their works; their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and ruin are in their paths. They did not know the way of peace, and there is no judgment in their paths. They have made crooked paths for themselves; whoever goes in them shall not know peace.” (Isaiah 59:1-8 MKJV)

“Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people! Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place for traveling men, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies. But they are not mighty for the truth on the earth; for they go from evil to evil, and they do not know Me, says YHVH. Everyone beware of his neighbor, and do not trust any brother! For every brother will supplant his neighbor, and will walk with slanders. And everyone will deceive his neighbor and will not speak the truth; they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and they weary themselves to commit iniquity. Your dwelling is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know Me, says YHVH. Therefore so says YHVH tzava’ot, Behold, I will melt them and try them; for what else can I do for the daughter of My people? Their tongue is a slaughtering arrow; it speaks deceit; one speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in heart he lies in ambush.” (Jeremiah 9:1-8 MKJV)

There will be a punishment on those who defect from the truth and run after the myths so that their forbidden longings are cared for. But they are known by the fruit they produce. The Word rightly spoke, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (John 8:44)

The truth does not matter to these people for they have already decided whose child they are. They teach their lies and false beliefs to their children who pass it on to their own children and the lies become larger and larger over time. They do not want to know YHVH, for they only want to know how they can do what they want and still receive His blessings.

“This is a rebellious people, lying sons. They are sons who will not hear the law of YHVH; who say to the seers, ‘See not’; and to the prophets, ‘Do not prophesy to us right things, speak to us smooth things, prophesy falsehood; go out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.’ Therefore so says the Holy One of Israel, ‘Because you have despised this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rest on them; therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant.’ And He shall break it as the breaking of the potters' vessel that is broken in pieces. He shall have no pity, so that there shall not be found in the breaking of it a shard to take fire from the hearth, or to take water out of the pit.” (Isaiah 30:9-14 MKJV)

The truth has been deserted and the great falling away is occurring now. The lies and falsehoods are paving the way for the lawless one to come. This is the one “Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called YHVH, or that is worshiped; so that he as YHVH sitteth in the temple of YHVH, showing himself that he is YHVH.” (2 Thessalonians 2:4) Because he will use those lies that have been taught for many generations, he will be able to deceive many people. “With all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the Truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause YHVH shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the Truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12)

The Scripture tells us plainly, “And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before YHVH; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:11-15)

Know this, the Scripture says what it says and means what it says. There is no grey area nor any wiggle room no matter how much we may desire there to be. Going and attaching yourself to a “church” or to a group of people that believe a certain way will not save you. The Word is the only way, the only Truth, and the only Life. (John 14:6) If you are being taught anything else, it is a lie and that lie will lead to the lake of fire. Repent – which means to stop what you are doing and turn the other way – for you do not know what time He will come and claim His own. Do not be as the five foolish virgins that were not prepared waiting to the last minute and then worried about their own light. They were not allowed access to the marriage supper, and if you are not prepared and your light is not shining bright, then you will miss out as well. Once again I ask you, is your pleasure here on earth and the lies that you are being taught worth more than being a part of the wedding supper of the Lamb?

If you believe the lie instead of the truth, then the Word does not dwell in you. Only by the Word abiding in you and you in the Word will you have access to eternal life. The Law of the Spirit wars against the Law of Sin. If you choose to follow a lie so that your flesh may be satisfied, then you are not following the Law of the Spirit. The choice is yours to make each and every day.

We are to be in the world, but not of the world. We are to be friendly to people, but not friends of the world. “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with YHVH? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of YHVH.” (James 4:4) By entangling oneself in the world, then you are allowing the world to suffocate the Truth out of you. There is no thin line or no demarcation at all. The Word sets the limits and boundaries for those that wish to enter into heaven. By saying that the Word does not mean what the Word says, then one is deceiving themselves into a deadly delusion. We should not allow ourselves to, as the Galatians did, allow others to deceive us. “O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Yeshua HaMashiac hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?” (Galatians 3:1)

“Submit yourselves therefore to YHVH. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) We are to die to ourselves and live to the Messiah. That means that we are to make subservient our lives and live the life that YHVH wants us to live. When He says no, it means no. We may think we know better, but He is the One who created us and He alone knows what is in our best interests. Only by submitting to His Kingship over us will anyone be able to fight back against Satan.

One may find the truth ugly and wish it to go away. But no matter how you try to hide it or to dress it up in a way that is more appealing to you, the truth is still there and you will be judged on whether or not you followed the truth. For the truth is that everybody will be judged and will receive judgment based on how they lived their lives. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of the Messiah; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” (2 Corinthians 5:10) What you are judged on is the truth. Not the truth according to man, but the truth according to the Word.

That is the Truth that never changes. The Truth is the Word and “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with YHVH, and the Word was YHVH. The same was in the beginning with YHVH. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” (John 1:1-5; 15) Thus we know that the Word has been there since the beginning, and we also know that He never changes for the Scripture says, “Yeshua HaMashiac the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” (Hebrews 13:8) When was yesterday? Yesterday was in the beginning, and so we have no excuse and we have no right to say that anything has changed. The truth has never changed and will never change.

“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of YHVH your Elohim which I command you.” (Deuteronomy 4:2) “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.” (Deuteronomy 12:32 MKJV) “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, if any man shall add unto these things, YHVH shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, YHVH shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” (Revelation 22:18-19)

We are not to add to nor take anything away from what is written in the Scriptures. By adding our own interpretation to the Scripture and that includes changing the meaning of words, we are breaking a commandment of YHVH and bringing a curse upon our self. “All scripture is given by inspiration of YHVH, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of YHVH may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) Inspiration is the Greek word theopneustos (GSN 2315) and means YHVH breathed. That means YHVH spoke it and anything YHVH spoke is the Word of YHVH. No one has the right to personal interpretation of the Scriptures. “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of YHVH spake as they were moved by the Ruach HaKodesh.” (2 Peter 1:20-21) Rather we have a duty to uphold the truth and to fight any and all who wish to change it in any way.

The meaning of the word lust in the Restored Covenant is forbidden longings. Any longing that is contrary to the Word of YHVH is a forbidden longing. John tells us that they all fit into three categories: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. It was not any one forbidden longing, but how that we must avoid all of them.

So did you have in mind any specific "forbidden longings" to which this article was in reference. I mean did something specific you came across somewhere inspire you to write this article?
