Can I Really Have My Cake and Eat It Too?
Personal blog posted by Scott Ledbetter on February 14, 2010 at 3:40pm
"And if it seem evil unto you to serve YHVH, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the elohim which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the elohim of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve YHVH.” (Joshua 24:15) This is a question and a charge that we must daily make in our own lives. The children of Israel had to choose whether to be like everyone else, or whether to be in the minority, serving YHVH, and not doing as everyone else did.
We are faced every day to decide which path we must choose. Do we give in to our fleshly desires, thinking the flesh more important than the Spirit of YHVH, or do “we walk by faith, not by sight”? (2 Corinthians 5:7) I can tell you from personal experience that when you choose YHVH over the flesh and its desires, then you will have fewer friends, and even fewer relatives in the flesh, because for most people, they choose the flesh over YHVH. Modern theological teaching tells them that they can indeed have their cake and eat it too.
It is this same modern theology that tells us that the family is not that important, and gives us homosexual marriage, divorce and adultery. Also, this modern theology says life is not that important because they allow abortions, and in some cases even euthanasia. Modern theology flies in the face of YHVH’s order that He established, and that this whole world’s foundation is laid upon. People want to do what is right in their own eyes, while being told that they can still go to heaven.
In the Garden of Eden, if YHVH had not of given Adam and Eve the commandments of not eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, to procreate, or to take care of the Garden, then there would have been no way for them to sin. But in giving them commandments to follow, not only did it give them the opportunity to sin, but it gave them a choice. The choice was whether or not they would follow YHVH, or do what they wanted to do. If they chose to follow YHVH, there would be blessings and life eternal, but if they chose to do what they wanted to do and go against YHVH, then there would be curses and death.
Yeshua warned us long ago, “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a mans foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it . . . Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of His glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for My names sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first . . . If any man come to Me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after Me, cannot be My disciple.” (Matthew 10:34-39; 19:28-30; Luke 14:26-27)
This means that when you choose to follow Yeshua and to serve Him, then you are going to have friends and family members that will disown you and be hateful towards you. They shall accuse you of deserting them, and even turn you into the civil authorities, all in order to get you to change your mind and to choose them over Yeshua. What did Yeshua tells us about His own flesh and blood? “While He yet talked to the people, behold, His mother and His brethren stood without, desiring to speak with Him. Then one said unto Him, ‘Behold, Thy mother and Thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.’ But He answered and said unto him that told Him, ‘Who is My mother? And who are My brethren?’ And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples, and said, ‘Behold My mother and My brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of My Father which is in heaven, the same is My brother, and sister, and mother.” (Matthew 12:46-50)
All those who walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh will face rejection and opposition from those who are still in the flesh. Those who are in the flesh, who have been told of the Gospel, have rejected Yeshua. If you reject Him, He will reject you. You see, this world, and modern theology, has the term love terribly skewed. It was out of love that YHVH sent Yeshua, to where He had to show the world how much they were in error so that He could reconcile the world to YHVH through His shed blood. The only way that people will realize that they need to be reconciled to YHVH is to be told that they are in error and need to change. That is real love, not wanting any to perish, but that all come to repentance. However, there will be many - a majority of people who you show true love to - that will reject what you are saying refusing to change, believing that they are not the ones in error but that you are.
You will be labeled as a liar, spewing hate speech, and they will do everything they can to silence you, including gossiping and backstabbing. They must do this so as to discredit you in the eyes of others, of whom they seek their praise. They wish to be told how great they are and how much knowledge that they have. They seek to be constantly lavished with praise. These will have heir reward from mankind, which is not the reward that YHVH would give them. But since you do not need the praise of mankind, you are not wanted around because you tell the truth, and they do not want to see nor hear the truth.
Yes, it is love to try to show them the truth so that they can change, but if they refuse to listen to you, there comes a time when you must move on and let YHVH deal with them. You are not to “Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.” (Matthew 7:6) You are called to come out from the world, and the longer that you stick around someone who refuses to listen, the more they will rub off on you instead of the reverse. Sometimes, true love is tough love.
