Whilst the inclinations of homosexuality - attraction to those of the same sex - may sometimes be of purely abnormal psychological origin, to actually participate in the homosexual act is an open door to demon possession to one degree or another. As is typical of a subject about which there is so much ignorance and superstition, the demon issue tends either to be totally neglected or blown out of all proportions.

A demon (or 'devil' - KJV) is a spirit-being that possesses no physical body and cannot, therefore, amongst other things, directly enjoy the pleasures of sex. To do this a demon must enter a human body and literally 'tap' into the thoughts, feelings and physical sensations of its host, rather as a parasite sucks chemicals and life energies. The degree of demonic 'parasitism' depends on the nature and degree of the sin which has allowed them access to the human soul in the first place. A demon may only enter a human being if that person disobeys certain commandments of God, specifically those sins that exclude a person from the Kingdom of God. Most demons attempt to influence or tempt a person from the outside by 'whispering' to them. Once inside, they have their hands on many of the controlling mechanisms of his psyche and physical appetites. Once inside, a demon subverts the soul's processes to serve its own ends, whether it is sexual pleasure or simply the pleasure of keeping that soul away from the demon's archenemy, Yahweh (God).

As with ordinary biological parasites, there are many types of demon and many types of parasitism. Some parasites live in their hosts without killing the host off; others slowly kill the host, and the more aggressive types end up killing them quickly. This 'killing' may be either spiritual or physical, or both. Until endo-demons (demons inside the soul) are expelled, that soul can never function properly and may not only find itself misled about fundamentally important matters concerning salvation but also be gradually burned up physically and finally be killed. There are always plenty more hosts for demons to occupy.

Any kind of sexual perversion, heterosexual or homosexual, is an open door to demon infestation. The more compulsively involved a person becomes with sexual perversion, the greater the likelihood of more and more demons entering. It is most unlikely that there is only one demon involved when a person has been involved in homosexual acts for a long time and the Bible speaks many times of an individual being possessed by more than one. The collection of demons known as Legion is well known and is one we meet a great deal whenever someone has been involved with sexual perversion and/or the occult (the two often go hand-in-hand). 

The concept of demon possession (itself somewhat of a misnomer for actual 'possession' - complete ownership - in fact only belongs to the sons of perdition) is not simply a matter of theology. People like myself, who are involved in deliverance ministry, know that this phenomenon is real enough. One of my very first deliverance sessions was with a woman who had become involved in lesbianism through Satanism. Though not a 'homosexual' or 'transsexual' in the strictest sense of the world, for she felt like an ordinary heterosexual, she had nonetheless been involved in lesbian acts for some time and had become addicted to/controlled by them. In her case no psychological adjustment was needed as is typically the case of a homosexual who has a gender-identity problem, and once the demon associated with her perversion had been cast out, she felt no need for any lesbian associations again. She was free.

We must therefore draw a clear line between the demonisation that accompanies the homosexual act and those people who have gender confusion (trans-sexuality) problems. A homosexual who has received Yah'shua (Jesus) as Lord and Saviour, who has become celibate, and who has had the demons associated with homosexual sex thrown out of him, is not necessarily demon-controlled just because he continues to have same-sex attractions. But if he reverts to homosexual acts, then without a doubt the demons will return, and sometimes with a vengeance. A homosexual delivered from homosexual sex-demons must often expect time for a reorientation of his psyche as the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit) works within him, healing him of his orientation. The speed of this healing varies enormously between individuals and may take between several months and several years, depending in large part on the extent of his yieldedness to Christ and his path of Christian discipleship.

Finally, there is another form of homosexuality which is called a 'generational sin'. This is the inclination to homosexuality passed on from an ancestor, recent or distant, who was involved in homosexual acts and was never delivered. Other kinds of generational sins include those with a propensity to alcoholism and involvement in the occult. Generational sins are demon-controlled and can only be broken by deliverance ministry.

Deliverance from homosexual sex-demons may be done either by the homosexual himself or by a deliverance minister. Though in principle the solution is a do-it-yourself (DIY) one, in practice those afflicted by demons - especially if it is acute - need the help of others. The stronger the demon, the more difficult it is to dislodge. Yah'shua (Jesus) mentioned that some demons (like Legion) can only be removed after much prayer and fasting. A parasite knows it is on to a good thing and will not readily go. And the demons associated with homosexual acts are particularly strong which is why so many homosexuals have such terrible struggles to be completely free.

Even if you try the DIY approach (which many try because they are too ashamed to admit their homosexuality to potential Christian helpers) you still need prayer cover. And since confession is an important part of the healing process, I really do not recommend the DIY approach except as a daily cleansing routine after you have been delivered. If you are a practising homosexual who wants to quit and be free, I really strongly suggest you find a homosexual deliverance ministry or minister to help you who can bring in experienced counsellors (for homosexuality is a complex phenomenon) and can call upon prayer support. Part of the deliverance program for homosexuals, whether it is from demonic oppression or the psychological changeover process, should involve active fellowship and worship within a local church where you will be accepted and loved. And although all churches should provide this kind of ministry and care, the sad reality is that most do not because they are woefully ignorant of both the causes and cure for homosexuality. Indeed, there are some who believe that homosexuals are forever lost and make no attempt to reach out to help them. Apart from this being a wholly unscriptural position, it is actually a part of the demonic problem. A great many Christians, mostly liberal, do not even believe that demons exist, but that they are only symbols for psychological phenomena. Thus some of the stories of demon possession in the New Testament they mark down as an epileptic seizure or some other purely medically known phenomenon. I mention these things should you go to a church for help and leave rejected and despondent. Don't give up. Ask the Lord to lead you to the right church. We live in a time of great apostasy in Christianity and the great majority are not walking in the way of the Lord any longer.

Once you have accepted that demons are a part of the problem, part of that problem has already been solved. The next thing is to actually get delivered. This cannot be done until you have made a genuine, sincerely, heartfelt commitment to the Lord Yah'shua haMashiach (Jesus Christ) and have covenanted with Him through water baptism to walk in His commandments. It is no use approaching deliverance with the idea that Christ is some medicine whom you can drop after you have been delivered. If you take that approach and are delivered (though this sometimes happens, it is unlikely), the moment you discard Christ the demons - and the homosexual problem - will return. Whilst deliverance will not necessarily cure the homosexual orientation, it will break the craving for abnormal and perverse sex which the homosexual act is. Indeed it is this craving - this obsessive desire for more and more sex - which is one of the symptoms of demonic control. You are, in fact, experiencing their lust through your own parasitised carnal soul-nature. Like an enemy plundering an occupied country, the demons plunder you of your sexual energy. And just as an enemy invader rapes the country it is occupying of its resources, so demons are raping you and are draining you of your psychic and physical resources. It is for this reason that so many homosexuals are burned-out. And as a footnote I should add that we find many of the same symptoms in heterosexual perversion too. Homosexuals are not alone.

To be delivered from demons, commitment to the Lord Yah'shua (Jesus) is the first and most important step. The second is going celibate until you are heterosexual and breaking all contact with the homosexual milieu. You are not to try witnessing to homosexuals of your salvation at this stage because you are still spiritually blind in many areas. And you know what our Lord says about the blind leading the blind. But mostly it's for your own protection. You are still far too vulnerable and could easily slip back into the homosexual lifestyle. In this respect you are no different from the recently converted alcoholic and must keep right away from any environment where alcohol is served until he is strong in the Lord and able to properly resist temptation. As a Christian you are entering a program in which your whole lifestyle must be reoriented, and is as true for you as a homosexual as it is for a 'normal' heterosexual (in truth, there is no such thing as a 'normal heterosexual' until they are in Christ - the idea is not to make you a heterosexual pagan!). Only when these steps have been taken - proper conversion to Christ and a determination to lead a celibate lifestyle until you are fully healed - can deliverance have any chance of succeeding. (For those readers who may be Christian heterosexuals I should point out that if you have a problem with compulsive or addictive sex then your problem - and its solution - is not so dissimilar to the active homosexuals').

I wish to point out here that it is perfectly possible to be healed of homosexuality without any knowledge of demons or use of deliverance ministry per se. To be in a loving, accepting Christian environment where there is much prayer intercession, can lead to complete healing. In my experience, though, this path usually takes much, much longer but may well be the "tailor-made" solution for an individual who has personal problems believing in the phenomenon of demons, or cannot find Christians with a mature knowledge and experience of them. The world is a big place and there aren't that many ministries to help homosexuals, though they are growing in number and experience. With the advent of the Internet, locating such ministries has become much simpler, though. At NCCG we provide addresses of those we know and recommend. Obviously we can't recommend all ministries as some tend, in their ignorance, to compound the problems rather than solve them, especially in the realm of demons - one does not fool around with these things.
