The Final Gathering
1. Dispelling the Myths
If you ask Christians from different denominations what their vision is of the coming years you are likely to get quite a few different answers.
Many will tell you that they are expecting a major world revival in which Christianity will sweep across the whole planet and create paradise on earth. Beautiful though this "Kingdom Now" vision is, it is completely unbiblical. It is a lie. The Messiah (Christ) will not return to a Christian world but a pagan one. There will be, we are told in scripture, pestilence, disease, famine, earthquakes, and ecological disaster (Mt.24:7; Mk.13:8; Lk.21:11). And some passages even speak in terms that sound remarkably like radioactive fallout after a nuclear attack (Ezek.39).
At the other extreme another group of Christians will tell you that conditions will get worse and worse which will in turn lead to a global cataclysm leaving the earth utterly desolate for 1,000 years. In this scenario, there will be no humans on the earth at all. Instead, the surface of the planet will see billions of demons roaming around a dark, desolate world amongst the ruins of former human civilizations. This also is a false doctrine. In numerous places the scriptures speak of Yah'shua (Jesus) returning to rule the world in peace and safety for 1,000 years after a brief and sudden period of destruction (Rev.20:3-6). There are other groups which tell you that the whole of humankind will be in heaven during this 1,000 year period either as disembodied spirits in a spirit world (because they do not believe in a physical resurrection) or as resurrected beings on some other physical world where God lives. Needless to say, neither of these scenarios is biblical. Whilst there is indeed a spirit world where the spirits of the departed await judgement and the resurrection, this is only a temporary place (Lk.23:43; 2 Cor.12:2-3; 1 Pet.3:18-20). The world will most definitely be inhabited after Yah'shua returns, by both mortals (the survivors of the Tribulation) and resurrected persons.
By far the greatest myth that has been spawned by counterfeit Christianity is the escapist doctrine that before all the terrible times (called in scripture 'The Great Tribulation' - Rev.7:14) start, they will suddenly be whisked away into the sky. They will thus miss the 7 year terror of the Antichrist but will return again for the Millennium (1,000 year rule of the returned Messiah). This doctrine is called the "pre-tribulation rapture" and is believed by the majority of evangelical Christians. This is not, however, a biblical doctrine and only appeared about 150 years ago. The early Messianic Community (Christian Church) knew nothing of this teaching. The rationale of many 'pre-tribbers' is that Yah'shua, who is preparing for His allegorical wedding to His Bride, the Messianic Community (Church), does not want a "bloody bride" - He does not want martyrs, they say. However, considering the millions of Christians who have laid down their lives in persecutions and pogroms over the centuries, and are still doing so today, it is already too late: since it is most unlikely that more Christians will be ready for an imaginary "rapture" than have already been killed for their Master, the Bride is
already bloody (Rev.6:9).
A careful reading of the scriptures indicates not only that Yah'shua will return but
once (the pre-tribulation rapture teaching requires
two returns - once in the 'air' and once on the 'ground') but that persecution is the expected lot of true believers (2 Tim.3:12; also Mt.5:11,44; Lk.11:49; 21:12; Jn.15:20; Rom.12:14; 1 Cor.4:12; Gal.6:12; 1 Thes.3:4). Where the scriptures speaking of end-time martyrdom blatantly contradict these teachings, the 'pre-tribbers' speculate that those who are killed during the time of the Great Seven Year Tribulation are of those who are converted to Christ
after the rapture has taken all the rest away. But these are mere speculations created to harmonise the Bible with a pre-conceived doctrine. The fact of the matter is that
there will be no rapture of believers before the Tribulation. Whether we like it or not, the true Body of Messiah is going to pass through the Tribulation.
The pre-tribulation rapture doctrine is perhaps one of the most dangerous errors in the churches today, more so since so many people, looking for a cheap and easy gospel that does not demand much of them, seek for an escape route from true discipleship. Yah'shua had such in mind when He spoke His parable of the Ten Virgins (Mt.25:13). The five foolish virgins in their complacency and unpreparedness allowed their lamps to go out so that when the Bridegroom, Yah'shua came, they were shut out of the bridal chamber. Though they begged for oil from the five wise virgins, they got none, for in truth you cannot buy the fruits of discipleship - you must obtain them through a godly walk in faith and obedience. But they lacked both faith and discipline: like so many modern "Christians" who have come more to be entertained than to follow in the footsteps of the Master, they wanted a "fast-food", "take-away" Gospel requiring as little from them as possible. These are today's "plastic Christians" who want what is being offered but are not prepared to give much in return. Their shallowness demonstrates how little they understand what the Kingdom of Heaven is. Yah'shua likens them to seed "that fell on rocky places (which is like) the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away" (Mt.13:20-21, NIV). And yet it is through persecution that the true sons and daughters of Yahweh will be revealed.
This alone should cause us to pause and wonder. Are there really millions of people converting to the Messiah today? After a major evangelistic campaign in a Ukrainian city in which thousands "accepted Christ", a team went in to follow-up and check the progress of these new converts. To their surprise, they found that only
three or four of these thousands were active Christians. For today a doctrine of "cheap grace" is being taught whereby a man is led to believe that all he must do is passively believe to be saved and so be guaranteed a ticket to heaven. They have not been taught the biblical truth that whilst the entrance fee to the Kingdom is free, the annual subscription costs you everything you've got.
One of the greatest deficiencies therefore in Christendom today is a sound biblical program for
discipling. And even those churches which do offer programs in discipleship frequently dilute it so as not to be controversial (Lk.14:26). Not many are willing to carry Yah'shua's cross (v.27) or to give up everything to follow the Master (Lk.14:33). Many are secret disciples because they fear man (Jn.19:38). A true disciple must come under full discipline and be willing to follow the Saviour all the way - 100% - otherwise he will be found lacking when put to the test. And that test - the greatest a man can face - will confront every single living person in the very near future. We are all shortly to be put to the ultimate test. Are you prepared?
Another group of Christians called Preterists believe that Yah'shua has already come! They say that when the resurrected Messiah appeared to His disciples after the crucifixion that this was the second coming, though apparently forgetting that there have not only been more than 1,000 years since this time but that there has been nothing but suffering and misery since. Others say He came a little later. Yet another very large group - the Jehovah's Witnesses - say that He returned
invisibly at the turn of the 20th century when several of their prophecies of a visible return failed. And yet another group - the Mormons - say that Christ will return twice (once to one of their temples and once at the end of the age) in order to explain one of their false prophecies and this they have justified scripturally by rearranging the chronology of the Gospel of Matthew in their own version of the Bible, the
Joseph Smith Translation (LDS) or Inspired Version (RLDS/Community of Christ), which has no ancient manuscript evidence whatsoever in support. There seems to be no end to the dishonesty of man.
The variations of all the above teachings are too numerous to consider here. Whatever your belief may be, clearly all of these teachings cannot be correct. Yahweh, the Eternal Elohim (God), has only one program. There is only one end-time plan, only one end-time scenario. There are no more 20 different ways that Yah'shua is going to return than there were 20 different ways in which He came the first time 2,000 years ago. Yah'shua came in one way only and He will return in one way only too. Clearly all but one - or maybe none - of those men and women who have been teaching these doctrines have been led by the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit) because the Ruach haQodesh only deals with truth. Somewhere along the line - deliberately or ignorantly (only Yahweh-Elohim knows for sure), these ministers and apologists have "exchanged the truth of Elohim for a lie" (Rom.1:25, NIV) and have misled millions of souls.
As we enter the times of tribulation prophesied in the scriptures, we cannot possibly afford to believe in false doctrines any more. There is simply too much at stake: our very lives. Worse than this, though, is the fact that many who believe they are in the Kingdom of Yahweh are, in fact, outside it and living a delusion (2 Thess.2:11) - a delusion which is not only condemning themselves but also their families and anyone else whom they may have authority or spiritual influence over. If they cannot see the truth, then they are as the blind leading the blind into destruction (2 Pet.1:8-9) and must face up to the awful reality that they may not, perhaps, ever have been truly born again. For those who are truly born again are able to see and understand the Kingdom of Yahweh clearly (Jn.3:3). Yah'shua said: "I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony" (Jn.3:11, NIV). There are too many people speaking of what they believe instead of what they know. False information leads us astray; unless we truly know the Word of Yahweh and have the spirit of discernment, we are risking more than being the purveyers of false doctrine - we are risking, in the area of key doctrines, our very salvation!
Yah'shua said: "But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through Elohim" (Jn.3:21, NIV). The truth of Elohim has a harmony to it - everything "adds up" and is plain to the understanding. There are far too many people who have been extracting scriptures to fit pet doctrines whilst ignoring those which contradict them. They may see the inconsistencies and contradictions but do not want to be reminded of them. But brushing any part of the Word of Yahweh under the carpet, or locking it away in a dark closet, is not acceptable. Yahweh-Elohim, our Heavenly Father, has said: "So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isa.55:11, KJV, emphasis added). Nothing He has said returns to Him empty - every word has substance. It cannot be ignored. But if we espouse a theology that forces us to ignore certain of His words, then the chances are we are believing in a false theology. And if that is so, we must have the courage to put it aside and start again. There is no shame in being wrong, so long as we are sincere, honest and not too proud to change. A humble and teachable heart is all the Master expects of us, for we are all led into error from time to time.
These, then, are some of the many end-time myths that abound in Christendom today. If we are to understand the true latter-day scenario that we are at this very time entering into, we must be rid of them. It is one thing to be sailing in a poorly constructed ship in calm weather, but when the storms come, we most certainly do not want to find ourselves at sea in a vessel that is likely to capsize and sink. A wise man or woman plans ahead - he will build his spiritual house on a rocky foundation, not a sandy one (Mt.7:24-27). Theology is not a game - in moments of crisis it can be matter of life or death. And in terms of the eternities and where we shall eventually be placed, true theology means a great deal.
Building assemblies or churches is not a career - they are supposed to be arks of safety. Choosing a denomination we want to be a part of is not a question of deciding whether we want carrots or peas with our steak, but a question of pure or rotten food - it is a matter of the truth. These things are not a game. In our rich industrialised western world where in the marketplace the range of choice of goods is bewildering, we have lost the ability to discern because we have been fooled into believing that the truth is the same in all churches but that it is simply gift-wrapped in different ways. The Truth isn't supposed to be wrapped up at all - it is not supposed to be concealed by anything or hidden away in any one man's or denomination's private agenda. And yet today it is packaged and marketed as another product in the supermarket of religion. Furthermore, newly converted Christians for the most part think little about denominational differences and deeper theology because they usually go to churches where they feel most "at home" in locally or to the church of the person who has led them to the Messiah, or because it has the best choir, the most charismatic minister, the most comfortable pews, has the doctrine which promises them the most material blessings, or is closest to home.
There is only One Truth, One Way, and one Life (Jn.14:6). "Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding" (Prov.23:23, NIV). Being in the truth is not passive assent to something you have heard from a minister or a friend - it has to first, be earnestly searched for, be purchased with all you have and then clung on to. Yah'shua said:
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. "Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Mt.13:44-50).
The fruits of Truth are wisdom, discipline and understanding. Note especially that unpopular word "discipline" - that's where we get the word "disciple" from. A disciple is someone under discipline. Are you willing to seek for these things? If you are, read on as we see just how the end-time scenario is about to unfold and how you need to prepare for it.
