    Opening Eyes (Eynayim)

Intellectual conversion - having a rational explanation of the truth - is very important because Christianity is not a collection of superstitions and myths but factual truth. However, the mind is not the only part of our being that needs converting. We also have a heart and a spirit. We read further in Luke's account of what happened next:

"As they approached the village to which they were going, Yah'shua (Jesus) acted as if he were going farther. But they urged Him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So He went in to stay with them. When He was at the table with them, He took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized Him, and He disappeared from their sight" (Luke 24:28-31, NIV).

Sometimes the truth is just staring us in the face and yet we are blind to it. When Yah'shua broke the break for a meal (called the betziat halechem) and said the traditional brakhah or Blessing, these two disciples suddenly realised that the stranger, as they supposed, was someone they intimately knew. Here their spiritual eyes have been opened because they are recognising the personality of the one who expounded the Scriptures to them earlier.

Our awakening to truth does not always take place all at once. Often it is unfolded degree by degree. Here the door to spiritual awareness and "knowing" in the supernatural sense is indicated. Whereas unbelief had kept these two men blinded before (they had viewed the mission of Yah'shua (Jesus) as a failure because He has been killed), now they realised that he was, in fact, very much alive and actually with them sharing a meal. At this moment of realisation, His physical presence was no longer required further, so He disappeared just as He would appear to the apostles in subsequent meetings.

The truth as to whom Yah'shua (Jesus) is has probably been staring you in the face for a very long time but it may take a series of events for your spiritual eyes to be fully opened. Don't despair if your search at first does not seem to yhield the results you want and expect - there may6 yet be unbelief to be removed before you can make full contact with the Master. So read on ...
