Q. Do you believe that the Prussian East will ever be regained? What are the possibilities of Germany reacquiring West and East Prussia, Pommerania and Silesia?

A. If by means of non-violent political means within the framework of the EU, then I think it will never happen. This is not because it can't happen or that it shouldn't happen but because the powers-that-be simply aren't interested because money is their chief driving force. The only possible move that I can foresee in the future is in the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, or northern East Prussia (see pink area in map above). For reasons of its own, the EU may want to see it detatched from Russia and incorporated into the EU so as not to have a Russian military presence in its back yard. The resultant political entity might, or might not, be renamed 'Prussia' and its capital renamed 'Königsberg' - there are various proposals already by cecessionists who want to retain its Russian character and rule. That will, in any case, depend not so much on the citizens (who in reality have little or no say) but on the politicians. Someone might buy it off Russia (Germany has already once offered to buy it and cancel Russia's huge debts in exchange) but such would have been political suicide for the Russian government. I can forsee that possibly happening again, especially if the Russian Federation is sufficiently destabilised polically and weak financially - then a German Government consortium might well buy it back again, offer financial incentives for the Russians living there to move to mainland Russia, and simply assimilate the rest. The other scenario might be a collapse of the Russian Federation leading to anarchy in that nation which the EU would use as pretext to occupy the exclave for the security of its Polish and Lithuanian borders.
