'Tongue-speaking' has become common, mandatory practice in pentecostal and charismatic churches now for a century and is considered by them as evidence of the Baptism of the Ruach haQodesh (Holy Spirit) and of Fire. But what actually is 'tongues' and where do they come from? And is modern so-called tongue-speaking actually biblical? What constitutes true tongue-speaking?
Yah'shua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) commanded His talmidim (disciples) saying, "When you pray, don'tstammer/stutter/babble (Gk. battalogeo) like the heathen" (Matthew 6:7).
Battalogeo has only one occurence in Greek as it was a specialised word with a narrow meaning - it doesn't just mean to keep repeating the same words of a known language (like Aramaic or Greek) again and again but rather to make mysterious sounds and babbling gibberish which was viewed by the pagans as the 'language of the gods'.
Pentecostal/charismatic-type tongue-speaking only 'works' when parts of the brain (the logic and language centres) are shut down. This results in the opening of unsecured doors to the psychic realm and operates in precisely the same way as eastern meditation techniques such as TM.
This section lists numerous articles that give a complete exegesis of all the known passages that address Biblical 'tongues' and shows why the modern practice is unclean, making a mockery of the image of Yahweh, by an abuse of those parts of the body created for coherent logical language for the purpose of blessing and worshipping the Creator. The facts may surprise you.
